I am pretty new here and am very happy I found this place...and happy to own my 74 Duster. I have a question and am looking for peoples thoughts (scary).

My car has, as near as I can tell, the original 318 and trans as well as rear end. I was thinking that I was going to swap in a built 360. But am wondering about having a car that is the original drive train numbers etc.

I know it's up to me and I need to do what will make me happy....not gonna be a Barrett-Jackson car ever....but I'm just wondering? Thoughts?

And thanks for all the good inputs from everyone on my previous posts.

It,s easier to give advise with pics. of your car, there,s a big increase in power between a 318 and 360.If you go 360 it will increase your value abit.

Hey there. If you're concerned about changing out your 318 for a 360 you could always hang on to the origanal engine and swap it back later or sell the car with the original engine to go with it. That is a very common practice. Personally I get a real kick out of planning an engine build and collecting the parts and ultimately having it (hopefully ) roar to life. But, on the other hand, it's alot cheaper and easier to keep her like she is. Just not quite as exciting! Many, many cars in running condition have been taken apart and never seen the road again. Ya gotta be real about it. Do you have the time and resources to make it happen?

Agreed. If you can get a 360, over a 318, go for it. Just remember, the 360 does have some differences over the 318 making things a little more entertaining ;) Just make sure everything works together. The 360 is externally balanced whereas the 318 is internally balanced. I believe you have to change the flex plate. The motor mounts are also different. I've never done the swap myself, but many have, and it is very easy. If you can do it, I say do it, and enjoy the hell out of it. Make it YOUR car. That is what these are, OUR cars.

Well, seems 360 is the way to go. I just need to find one. I am trying to find a place in Arizona that can sell me a 360 long block at a decent price. Have a couple possibilities in Phoenix but not sure about them yet....
