Does anyone have any info on an original 1968 Hurst cuda orange in color. It ran as Smokin Joe II in division 2 during the late seventies and eighties. My dad drove this car for years and I spent many hours turning wrenches on that car. I would love to just know where it is today. The last I heard was that it sold to someone in Michigan after confirming the vin.

For your record, and to clarify this, after the original Macey Cuda was wrecked in ´69, a new car was build using some of the parts from the wreck. Around 1975 or so this car was sold to Norway and raced her in Sweden and Norway mainly, till mid eighties or so, before car went back to the States.
Last two pictures in your post #155, show the Cuda still in original paint scheme performing over here, and last pic in a car show in my local town late seventies.
At this time Sweden did not follow the NHRA rules so the original cross ram set up was swaped for this tunnel ram induction, running someting more like MP in what we than called Modified Standard.
Thank you for all the pics, some are new to me.

Is there out there any printed stories on how these cars were built /delivered or what is different from a regular barracuda? Or a document of a real one explaining what is different about them?

Today with a little bit on History on this one. Its Hard to find infos but from my understanding goes the Story on this BO29 like this.
John Hagen bought the Super Stock Barracuda paint it Green with "John Hagen" on the Doors. Later he put "Super Cuda" on the Doors. Around 1973 he repaind the Car in Candy Red and race it. At the end 70s he Sold the Car to Rick Johnson and he racing it in the 80s and 90s.
Again if i am wrong please feel free to let me know!.

Hi, Thank you for this page. It is quite interesting
I grew up in St.paul near John Hagen. This is the history of the 'cuda as I have been told: The green car was lost in a garage fire and ended up in a landfill. The red car is not one of the originals. It was built by the legendary Jerry Hemmingson in the early '70's to run SS/AA. This is also the Rick Johnson car.

Finally starting to work on my 69 440 +6 manual transmission faker. I have seen some photo's of the engine bay with the HEMI in it but for some reason i can not see very well what the headers look like. As best as i can tell they were not fender well types. How did they get them in with such a big motor. What modifications were done if any? Still learning about Plymouth's as most of my life was about the cheaper G.M.'s to acquire.

Welcome to the best car group in the world. I watched John Hagen run many times at Minnesota Dragways before it shut down in '76 I believe. I think he lived in Fridley, Minnesota when he campaigned the green car for a while. I remember the announcer at the strip bellering out, "and here's John Hagen from Fridley Minnesota!". I remember seeing his car parked off of University Ave. in Fridley a couple of times. I wonder if the garage fire was in Fridley and then he moved to St Paul. I don't remember seeing the red car run. This was a long time ago so I can't say my facts are 100% accurate. Maybe someone else remembers those times also.

My memories are old too. I didn't say it clearly but I meant the hardware store on snelling ave and Jerry hemmingson's shop in Roseville. The red car was built in '74 and probably saw most of its time at BIR. Thank you for the welcome and writing

Yeah, '74 sounds about right because I don't remember seeing the green car for a couple of years before the strip closed. He was a fan favorite when he did run at Minnesota. Kinda sad that I moved out to Blaine to be by the dragstrip and then they go and close it down the next year. :(

do you watch the minnesota dragways page?

Ron McDowell the original owner of the "Gentle Ben " car was still here in Boise about 10 yrs ago . I should look him up and see if he has any pics to share .

I have fantasized about a '68 Hemi B029 clone build. But turns out? It's very spendy. And not for the novice A-body owner. Even Chrysler engineers struggled a bit getting it right. Most builds today are with aftermarket front suspension units. Attempting in the spirit of '68? With that setup? You better have fab skills and an abundant of information regarding that setup.

if it could be done in '68 it sure could be done now
It can. Just not as easy as dropping in a replacement engine. Starting with shock towers. And of course modified k-frame. A-body not designed to house the hemi.

I have followed these cars for over 25 years. Learned everything I could about them and 25 years later I’m still learning things. I have clones of each of them. I love these cars. To me there the Ultimate Mopar.
