Painting my block...what color and prep?

the high solids urathane will hold up better over the years.. just the way it is. a lot nicer finish in my opinion too.. his stuff is nothing special.. he and some big dollar guys are convinced that his colors are the most correct. are they? who knows.. no one will ever know for sure.. 99.999999% of people wouldn't know if your engine was a shade off here and there so unless you are doing a concourse restoration ya may as well save a few bucks and get a better paint locally.

That's interesting, I would've thought a specifically made engine paint would be better than your everyday urethane paints. Either way, both my Bill Hirsch painted engines are holding up great .... color still pops too
 
I doubt it's a "high heat". He is known for his colors more then anything else. Like I said him and the high dollar guys claim it's the most "correct" color for concourse type of cars.
 
I often wondered what it would look like if you painted the ribs on the magnum valve covers silver and used black wrinkle on the rest. Kind of a modern commando valve cover? This is my version of a big block commando valve cover.

My personal opinion is...PLEASE paint the timing cover/water pump! Don't know where the trend started to leave them raw aluminum,but it's annoying because it draws attention to parts that are
"background stuff". Intakes and exhausts are "focal points" in under hood settings, imo. Everything
else should just blend in, even if it isn't 100% stock.
