picked up another toy the other day...

Years ago I had a 79 Regal with a 301 Pontyrat under the hood. Wish I had kept it, gave it to my mother. She drove it until it literally fell apart. Guess they are known for the frames to rot. She came out of the house one day to find the front bumper laying on the ground. About 6 months later the rear bumper removed itself as well....
I really liked that car. Rode nice. Put good springs/shocks and sway bars in it, was just firm enough to handle great without riding like a tank.

This one has been running at SCR for a while...hooks hard and runs straight. Think Hank was dialing 9.80 with it.

Crazy what a new pair of shoes will do. Looks great.
This all happened fast, where did you pick those up ?

oh man i have to say this cutlass is very enjoyable.. been driving it quite a bit. runs nice and rides so nice and its quiet inside. cruise control even actually works..

so like i said in my first post i want to add OD and the bigger 10 bolt rear with a 3:73 gear along with the bigger sway bars. was also toying with putting bucket and a console in the car...

a couple days ago a friend sends me a link to a rusty *** 442 for sale locally.. t-top car too.. so i go look at it today and it has the bigger sway bars, big 3:73 gear rear, OD trans and bucket seat int. rally dash..etc. also has the better 307 engine (if there is such a thing..lol). i go back and forth with the owner a little and make a deal.. i already have a clean set of bucket seats but i needed some parts and the floor brackets which this car has, the OD trans will get rebuilt and go in my car, the rear will be gone through and get put in my car and the sway bars will probably be on my car next week... a couple friends are already in line for some pf the parts on it too.. its so cool.. feels like 20 years ago pulling an old dart out of a back yard that has a 8 3/4 disc brakes and a built motor for under 1500 bucks...:)

check this rust bucket out... couldn't believe it actually runs too.. not sure what is in the tank can still be considered gas but it runs on it and smells horrible..lol

so yesterday i put the 442 sway bars on my cutlass,, i only had a smaller front one before. the 442 front bar is 32mm. huge compared to what was on it.

what a difference. feel the road so much more and its so much flatter in the corners. this car is getting more an more fun.. i also found out that the 442 actually has a 360 old in it instead of the original 307. really thinking of freshening it up and sticking it in my cutlass..

one of he next things is to get the fast ratio steering box out of the 442 and stick it in the cutlass..

rear bar took all of 5 minutes to install and made a huge difference...

size difference between the original fron bar and the new 442 front bar..

That 350 Olds could be fun. the pre 76 350 came in a variety of specs, anywhere between 160 - 360 hp and 275 - 490 lbft of torque.
If it is the 350 that they put in the 1979 Hurst/Olds models and 1980 442 produced 160–170 hp and 275 ft⋅lbft

its a 77-80 350 going by the casting number.. not sure of anything more then that. whoever did it did the installed very nicely. everything is hooked up as it should. no hack job. they used the original 442 intake and carb too.. valve covers are 307 still.. i guess someone did a long block in the car.

When you pull it check to see if the heads have PMD cast om them. Pontiac was making the heads for them in that time frame and those heads were prone to cracking

so today i finally put the new UMI springs and shocks on the car.. have had them for months but just never got around to doing them.. got a great deal on the shocks when this covid crap just started. they posted on facebook that they were clearing out old inventory so i jumped on the deal.. then a friend thats a dealer for them gave me a good price on the springs.

they dropped the car 1" up front and 1.75 in the rear.. love how it sits now.. just like i had envisioned it in my head.

ride is firm but in no way harsh.. and bot does it stay flat in the corners now... i must say that i like messing with torsion bars better. what a pain in the *** the front coils were..lol

Yeah, the real deal.
Owned by Rick Hendrick, built by Robert Gee, set-up by Harry Hyde and driven by Tim Richmond.
The last of the "real stock cars", before the front wheel drive Lumina came on the scene.
Fully restored and set up to run in the Historic road course series. I sold it off to a museum in 2008.
