Poly 318 rocker shaft

I have a poly 318.

as I was running the valves,I notice it's pretty dry in there.

If I plug the back side of the rocker shaft with my finger, it oil's the shaft quite well. (squirts out of all the rocker arm's)

If not..... it all ( the oil) runs out of the back of the shaft and, back into the head.

Is there a soft plug that goes in the back side of the shaft? or???

I haven't been into a poly engine since 1975 so I really don't remember very well what it was like. If it's like the A engines there should be a soft plug on each end of the shaft. From your description I suspect one has come out & is laying on the top of the head back there somewhere or has made its way down to the oil pan. I'd replace the plug ASAP, like yesterday.
