I have a 1969 dart with a 340, the car originally came with a slant six so it has the smaller steering parts. I need a 1-1/8 sized pit man arm shaft. I would like to get a quick ratio if possible. what do you guys recommend? I see borgeson makes a quick ratio with part number BRG800126 not sure if its a good option.

There are a few rebuild services that will rebuild your box to factory Firm Feel specs (originally for cop cars, emergency vehicles etc) or even tighter for better road feel: Firm Feel Inc. in Vancouver WA, Red Cap in the Seattle area are two I've had good luck with. It really improved the road feel on 2 of my Darts.

unfortunately I dropped my original one while i was rebuilding it and cracked it and the used replacement i bought was the wrong one so a rebuild is out of the picture. I'm Looking to just buy a new one at this point but thanks for the info! Good to know for any future projects.

I think the closest to NEW you are gonna get is a rebuilt original from a reputable company.

the borgeson is not a "direct" replacement. it needs the supporting cast of a properly valved pump and a coupler for the steering shaft along with the proper fluid lines.

while it is a little bit faster ratio, it's 14:1 v the factory 16:1 it's not tremendously faster. however it does have a much more modern feel to it.

for an absolute bolt in affair, i'd go with a factory box that's been re-valved for a firmer feel.

firm feel can help you out with that, and has the correct pitman that you'd need.

or you can contact steer & gear and they can set you up too.

Hit up a builder. They usually have cores. My guy built me one of his cores. 200 Cdn for the core, and 395 CDN for the firm feel rebuild/upgrade. The thing is great. LOL, a 3 day turn around too.

When I called firm Feel, they told me that they were 12 weeks out.....and a lot more $$.

Not very often do we, north of the border, catch a break for mopar parts. :)

As I understand, the factory box, no matter who rebuilt it, will always have a vague spot in the middle by design and the Boregeson does not and has that and feels more like a rack and pinion. I have a Firm Feel Stage 3 and considering swapping to the Borgeson box.

Let's dispel a BIG myth. ALL Mopar power steering boxes are "fast ratio". Every. Damn. One. They are all 16:1. That's a little over 3 turns lock to lock. Same as the Pontiac Trans Am and Z/28 Camaro of yesteryear. So paying extra from some wingding company for a "fast ratio" box is a total waste of money, unless you are getting a whole package, like @junkyardhero eluded to.

If it was ME, I would go to Autozone and get "whatever" brand they have available, IF it's available. It might not be, but if it is, they have a GREAT return policy, so if something goes wrong, they will take it back or exchange it and that will be a MUCH easier process with someone local, rather than having to ship a HEAVY box back that you'll likely be hung with return shipping. That's what "I" would do.

don't mess with any of those rebuilt stock style boxes. they all suck... call pete at @BergmanAutoCraft and buy the borgenson kit he has and be done with it.. you will love it, feels so much better then any stock mopar box out there... Steering Parts and Accessories - Bergman Auto Craft

feels nothing like a rack. it does feel a lot better then a mopar box though. well worth the money

The Mopar boxes were all noted for "too much" assist, but that can be tailored with some simple mods. I guess this all boils down to your budget and how much you want to and can afford to spend.

you can but it doesn't fix the slop in the box at the neutral position.
