On a 67 Barracuda I am considering, I am looking to add power steering. Can anytone tell me what components I will need to make a complete job? What parts to get reman (pump, gear box, NAPA or such?) What parts to get new (hoses) and what parts to get used (pulleys, brackets etc..) I have a pretty good idea whats needed but dont want to leave anything out. The car is a 273 but may consider going to a 340 if bracketry (sp?) is different. What do I need guys? Remember, I need it all....Thanks.

Well, the basic list:

1 pump
4 pump brackets w/ tensioner bolt
1 pump pulley
1 belt (Dynaflex P/N 15365)
1 (2) groove crank pulley
2 pressure lines
1 steering box
1 power steering column shaft
1 power steering pitman arm

All brackets/pulleys are the same across the LA engines (for power steering). It's only the car model/year that differs (pitman arm, steering shaft, etc).

I would suggest getting an ENTIRE steering system out of a junkyard. That will get you brackets, pulleys, hardware, steering shaft, and you can use the pump and gearbox as cores at the auto parts store (or FirmFeel). Of course, get new lines. The pitman you will probably need to buy new, unless you know someone with a Barracuda P.S. arm. Summit carries Moog pitman arms for Mopars. Got mine for $39 (on my Dart).

Ya know - it'd be cheaper just to work out some so it's easier to turn!!!:toothy7:

Ya know, since there's way more people who want to put manual steering in their a bodies, you should be able to fine someone who would trade your stuff for his. Might even get a few bucks thrown in to boot! You do know that you have to change the steering column, don't you? There's a demand for a body manual steering columns. Nobody (oops, sorry) wants to swap to manual. You have some real bargaining power!!!!! Use it.

Not that I cant handle it..LOL :thumblef: I just like goodies and gadgets and options on my cars...Will any A,B,C, body parts work or just A body specific? looks like i will be hunting down a steering column also, what donor cars will I need to look for so that the car looks stock when done? (I want to use original steering wheel, etc..)

I am pretty sure the pump, gearbox, brackets, etc. can come off ANY late 60's or early 70's car. It's just the column, pitman and maybe lines that are specific.

I'm 5-9 170lbs. My 68 340 Formula S has manual steering and I will never change it.

I'm 6' 215lbs and I find the manual steering in my 68 Barracuda to be a real pain in the a*$ compared to the feel and control you get from a modern power steering system. That's why I am swapping to power steering this winter in my car. I will be using a Firm Feel box with fast ratio pitman arm & idler arms.
