Pure stock drag racing

Does anybody know why pre 1973 Darts and all Scamps with the 318 engine can not compete in pure stock drag racing? The answer may surprise you.

No 4 barrel or dual exhaust available. Same reason there are no v-8 Mavericks allowed.

There was 66 Formula S 273 4 barrel there this year that of course had the correct single exhaust. It was allowed because it was marketed as a performance model I believe.
