Hey all,

Just purchased the PerTronix ignition system for my 65 Valiant.

I’m not a mechanic, but watched a few YouTube videos to see how they were installed on other cars. But couldn’t find a video showing how it’s done on my engine.

I have a basic idea of where to place it in the distributor once you remove rotor and points. Know how to gap it with the supplied plastic tool. But just want to be sure that I wire it correctly.

If there is another thread that explains how to do this, please forgive me for posting, and if possible, send me the link. Thanks for your time!

Study up and follow the instructions. It is quite simple. I see some go through the ballast and some don't. The instructions should tell.

They are simple and effective. And very trouble free.

The Pertronix unit itself should get 12 volts to the red wire. If you have a coil that usually is wired to a ballast and you haven't changed it, then the coil will still need the ballast and the distributor will not. That's why the one diagram shows the red wire for the distributor being taken on before the ballast.

Either way, you want to make sure you have the recommended resistance in the coil for the pertronix.
