I have a 1977 360 motor I just bored .30 over and trying to figure out what heads to run on it. I just want to run some stock heads on it that will boost my compression up to like 9:1 or so and I dont have alot of money to put into the motor. I was wondering if heads off a 1996 360 fit on to my '77 360 and if not what's different with them. Also what are the cc's on the head for the 1996 360? I am new to this so any help would be great. Thanks

1996 360 heads are magnum heads...yes they fit..But...you will need the magnum rocker set up as they rockers are mounted on a pestal...not a shaft....

plus you will need a hollow pushrods as the magnum head thru the pushrods..and that also requires hydraulic lifters that oil thru the pushrod...which most do now...

you will need a new intake manifold as the magnum head use vertical bolts for the intake manifold instead being on an angle

more info at that link

so if i have some 96 heads with the rockers on them i can just get some new push rods and change the intake and hydraulic lifters and they would work?

just remember the magnum rockers are 1.6 ratio vs LA 1.5...

what are you using for a cam...the magnum heads are limited to around .500 lift due to retainer hitting valve guide

I would be looking for some 340x heads....much bigger valves...202...than you can put just about any cam in....

you missed the original question..he wants to raise the compression on a 360...340 x heads are opened chamber heads just like his current 360 heads...they will not raise the compression...340 x heads are going to have a limit on valve lift also just over .500 also...unless the guides are shorten also...it effects the magnum more cause they have 1.6 rocker ratio...and have a shorter installed height on the valve springs.

he can mill his current heads...but the magnums have a better chamber...

actually the Indy/RHS X heads would be the best deal...but as he stated...money is the problem....

also get a set of Mopar Performance P4120094 ...they are .024 thick...
