Sorry if it's been asked before, but can anyone tell me what the red/orange wire connector coming from the radio is supposed to be used for? Mine is not connected to anything. Car is a '72 340 Duster. Thanks!

The red is switched power to the radio from the accessory circuit in the ignition switch and through the fuse panel

The orange is cluster dimmer controlled for the dial lamp

Thanks for the quick reply 67Dart. That connector is plugged in. I got that mixed up with an orange/yellow connector. It's a v shaped dual female connector that has 2 orange and 2 yellow wires coming into it...not being used by anything. Any idea? It's coming out of the taped wiring harness underneath the column, not the radio. I'll see if I can get a pic posted if nobody knows what it is.

at the bottom of the column near the firewall V shaped connector - it is the console wiring connector a sub harness plugs into it and runs to the right kick panel where the console wiring harness plugs into it. Orange wire is still dimmer controlled for PRND21 light as 67dart said.

Now it makes sense. My duster is a 4 speed...the reason why this is not being used. I used the orange wire for my tach light. What's the yellow wire's purpose?

correct it will be an empty un-used plug for a 4-spd. if you do want to wire gauges up under the dash though you can use the plug for their lighting w/o going into the harness or running to the fuse panel.

Those orange and yellow circuits were ran together and branched for courtesy delay timers and map light circuits. Features that all builds didn't include. Thus tape outs or tape aways in harnesses.
