Is it just me or are others noticing a lot of rust spots on late model Dodges especially the Rams?

Yea that's a common problem with the Dodge Rams. I have an 07 and it just started to bubble. I have seen some 08's rusted right through. Not a good design, it catches all the road dirt right in that seam and I even used to pull my tail lights and power wash all the dirt out then oil it up that's probably why mine is just starting to rust.

Same problem here. Mine is an 05. Started to rust last year right above the tire and boy does it piss me off. Now will end up replacing bedsides after winter is over. I was told they put "foam" in the bed for sound deadener and that is what causes it to rust from the inside out. It is a damn shame you spend so much for these trucks and the time to maintain them so they look and drive like new and they do this. I will drive this truck until the wheels fall off then put new ones on.

They are notorious for rust. Keep an eye on your frame rails as well.

Some of the guys up here just put the wheel flairs on, it doesn't fix the problem but you can get a few more years of good looks before you have to replace the box sides and they really do look good. I was looking at a set on amazon and for right now I might just order them and put them on.

Damn rust! That would piss me off to no end. Guess I have it made here in the desert not having to deal with crap. I saw a Plymouth breeze driving around here a few weeks ago with Michigan plates on it. The damn rocker panels were non existent! Pretty sure the structural integrity was rotted off lol.

Ahem,...This is not news to us folks up here in New England,....Hadda redo my back half on my ram last year,...and the Jeep Cherokee rockers have all but dissappeared within he last 2 years,...Damn road brine...

I see it on most of the rams around here. Its kept me from buying one as I would probably have to buy one that's a few years old. Who wants to invest in something that's already rusted or going to rust.
My 01 dodge is rusting now but the bottom of the doors have been rusted for a couple of years and you cant even find doors for a 01 quad cab so I bought lower inner's and outer skins for it.

Different area of the truck for sure, but my former boss's Ram ('12-ish) had rust spots on the chrome bumper about three months after he bought it new. They replaced it, and the new bumper had rust spots after about another three months.

Yes, there is foam around the wheel well. You can feel it through the drain holes. I've seen some with so much foam in them that the drains were covered up. :wack:

I have a 96 both sides of bed rusted out real bad and under both doors rusted out real bad,its a common problem
I thought that everything rusted on that side of the country. My 97 Dakota has 260,000 Colorado miles and zero rust. None of the late model trucks around here seem to have any rust issues.

if it was me i'd probably get it down to bare metal where the rust is, put some POR15 black on (dont get that crap on your hands it lasts a week lol), repaint, then put the flares on like someone mentioned.

I`ve got an 02 quadcab, the only rust on it so far is under the extra chrome strip I put on the bottom of the taigate, using pop rivets w/ no sealer on them. no bed rust at all-????????????
Most of you guys live in "The Rust Belt". Areas that receive snow and ice,and where salt is used on roadways.
When I lived in New Jersey, I would undercoat every new car, truck, van I purchased. Without fail. I usually when to an after market facility to have it done, rather than the dealer. The after marketers would undercoat the entire under-surface of the car/truck..
Body pan, frame rails, fender wells, even above the rear axle, and drive shaft. They would also do the firewall if requested.
If you purchased the good stuff, it was like having the bottom of your vehicle coated with "Line-X" material. lol. Most after market suppliers offered a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty. Of all the vehicles I had undercoated, back then, I only has one that showed any hint of rust. Ever. It was a 1976 Dodge B200 van. I bought it new, and had it undercoated the same week. The rust appeared in the rear quarters, behind the back tires, and was at the level of the sheet metal where the floor welded to the outside skin of the van. I noted it in my maintenance log for the van. It was in November of 1986, some 10 years 4 months after the undercoat date, and at 187,022 miles.
In other words, the the undercoating out lasted both it's time and mileage warrantys.

But have had to change the transmission cooler, fuel and brake lines, fuel filler tube all due to rust
Took the wedge shape shell off so I could go thru the car wash and get underbody wash. Try and do it after every snow when I drive the truck.
The Brine solution that they think is so great is what is causing the vehicles to rust so quickly, plus all the salt
Go to areas that do not use salt and they do not have the issues
The manufactures are trying to make them better at preventing rust, but you soak metal in salt water it is going to rust.
The best solution is to try and clean it was soon as possible after driving in the crap. Even if it means washing it a few times a week.
Keeping a vehicle in a warm garage also speeds the corrosion as the salt mess melts and drips off the vehicle it attacks the metal quicker.

I own two at the moment. A 99 and an 07...neither one has any rust.We don't salt the roads here.

Its a common complaint on other forums as well. My '05 Ram has the cancer as well even with the full well liners.
Line-X or Herculiner has become an interesting idea for the rockers, lower panel and fender areas, and wells for me. Maybe next spring?

I've been seeing a few too. But it's not just the Rams. I was at a body shop where they were replacing the metal above the wheel wells on an F-150! They used foam in there too!!
A PA body shop also told me that the new Challangers also have the foam in the quarters and some of them are starting to rust.I was there and they were replacing a complete truck bed floor and one quarter on a 2011 Ford F-150 because of rust.He can't wait to see what the winter salt is going to do to the all Aluminum Ford trucks that will be on the market soon.
