very cool, I'm running a 318 904 3.23 gears with 26"tire and stock converter. Had trans rebuilt with full manual valve body and lower 2.74 1st 1.54 2nd gears. Even with stock converter it gets the car (68 cuda) off the line quickly. just an alternative versus a lower rear end ratio that would raise your cruise rpm's.

racerdan80,

Just curious what is your compression ratio and cam specs? We too are having a 904 rebuilt by CRT except no rvmb. We have 2.76 gears though 2200 stall.

Compression and cam are currently stock as the internals of the motor are still original to 1968 specs. Around 8.5-9:1 compression, cam is .393-.400 lift with tiny 1.75/1.5 valves. Motor will be rebuilt eventually with 10:1 compression, RHS heads with 2.02/1.6 valves and perhaps a custom grind cam and converter to match the cam. RPM's at cruise speeds are unknown as I have not installed a tach yet.

hi folks, last weekend i made the first runs with my fish

made a 14.59 with 152,54 kph (94,78 mph)

no so bad i think..

318 030 over
windage tray
10 quart oil pan
domed KB pistons
stock heads (gasket matching - runners - bowl etc..) small stock valves
stiffer springs
XE274H cam
intake - LD340
holley 4bbl 670cfm
home/custom made longtube headers
2,5 inch exhaust - with low restriction mufflers
3:23 gears with a nitro locker
26,1 tire diameter
/6 converter
orig. A904 Pushbutton
crank, rods etc are all bone stock

CR is 11.8 right now (as i have to go down, step by step, more and more caused by the bad gas-quality in Germany)

guess there is still work to do (i´m thinking of playing with 360 Heads, and other cam, also thinking of a self made cold air ram induction)

temp on the strip was about 86 F (in the morning) and 97 F (later that day) also a lot of head wind

I ran a 318 in a 73 duster years ago. performer intake w/ 600 holley. 1 5/8 headers. 10.5 rated compression but with 360 heads was 9.5. I ran a crane 302-312 504-528 lift cam. It was definitely overcammed but ran really well. I would definitely put stock valved 360 heads on with a gasket match and pocket cleanup. You will not believe the difference. Also tried a 3310 holley. 750 Vacuum secondary and that really woke it up also. I had a stock convertor 727 with 276 gears and was tearing up high 13 sec. cars with this. I don't know the weight but I took everything out. On paper this little car should have never have run this hard, but it sure did. Bottom line, 360 heads and a 3310 holley is what I would change. I also agree you need more gear, that is what I was really missing. I have BB duster now and run 355s and love them. Good luck and I cant wait to hear the progress, I have a soft spot for 318's after that one.

With the size of the cam and the compression you have, a swap to mildly ported 360 heads would really wake it up in the top end and lower the compression a good bit to where you want it (mid-high 10's). The longer duration of the cam is helping it not to ping as much as it would with a smaller one. Then add some 3.91 gears and it will zip down the 1/4 mile in no time... might need some slicks at that point too lol In fact in my opinion you have a nice short block to make a real budget screamer of a 318 with those 360 heads and a small single-plane intake if you can find one.
