Hey all. I pulled the rear glas out of my 71 Swinger. The seal was bad. So I ordered a new seal. While I was waiting on that, i decided to strip the channel to clean it up, repair and apply some fresh paint to the channel. Now I am getting ready to reinstall the window. Should I use any type of glue or just the seal? I may remove the window at a later time to replace the headliner, but I may try with the window in place. What do you think I should do?

Thanks.

With a new gasket you may not need any sealer. If it does leak use only butyl sealer, don't use urethane like they use on modern glass. Urethane dries hard, butyl stays flexible.

i did the same last year...removed old window...clean channel and replace molding clips...

used only the new gasket....

If you want to insure against leaks I'd do as MOBodyman suggested - even with a new gasket.

I use the black butyl sealant where the gasket meets the fence and the grey bedding and glazing compound where the gasket meets the glass.

Thanks all. My next question ( and I should have added it in the first post). What is the best way to install the glass? Seal on car then squeeze in galss? or seal on galss then squeeze in to the car?
Last time i installed glass was in my 75 power wagon. I put seal around the glass and had string around the seal. set seal into place and pulled the string to get it on the truck. Does it work the same with the 71 Swinger?
I guess this will be my Sunday project--reinstall rear glass. Thanks againg folks.

Put the gasket on the fence , then insert the glass, bottom first.

to get the rear glass/windsheild out without breaking?
Thanks.

Who sells the new seals for a 69 Dart?
Thanks.

A good gasket can be reused but getting it out without damage and then cleaning thuroughly by hand is a chore. Only if you have more time than money. LOL Good luck

Thanks RedFish. I am hoping to get it installed tonight. If I find the camera I will take pics of the install.
