So I recently had my 8 3/4 narrowed and got new moser axles for it. I have a couple of questions. First is how far back do you need to drive the seal into the axle tube? I've got it in and pounded back to where the spacer and race should clear. Second off, I went with standard bearings which I regret not going with the green ones, but it seems *** backwards to me having the race on the outside? I know it's the way it's sopposed to be but seems like it makes it difficult to remove the axles if need be? I know with the old axles they slid right out but the race should be tapped in to where it can't spin. And as far as setting the end play I'm at a loss. Anyone have a good source to find good pics and step by step so I don't F anything up forcing what doesn't need to be forced in? Thanks guys. I know this may seem elementary to some but I have never had to screw with my diff before aside from swapping out the third member for 3.91's. Thanks guys
Rick

Never installed a 8 3/4, messed with plenty of others, when it comes to this subject, using care goes a long way, which it sounds like your doing. Green bearings? I've always used the stockers, never had problems. Sounds like your on the right track.

Yea it's a new part I've never tackled but ill figure it out. I've been looking for literature but its been slim pickings where I've been looking. I have an original parts manual but not a service manual. Chit....

Eratta...still thinking.... Yeah, your right, the race is toward the studs. I was thinking about another one. The seal is inside the tube and there is another seal in the plate. Adjuster is set by getting it all together, turning the adjuster down snug, tapping axle in with a mallet and turning axle, adjuster again, then measure in/out to specs and adjust in/out and lock down with fingers. Cant recall specs but its about barely perceptable pushing and pulling on the axle. Look right?

Yea that's what I found too. Thanks for the info guys. It just looked weird to me with the race being where it was. I assume the race should go in fairly easily if it removes with the axle when you pull it out.

The race is a snug fit but not hard to pull in and out of the housing. As for how far the seal drives in, there is a stop in the housing. I always drive it up against the stop, that way it's perfectly squared up.

Thanks fishy I appreciate that, that's kinda where I was heading with it and I'm glad you reiterated that for me. You've always been right on with your direction and I appreciate that.
