Rear axle question : center pin stuck on the ring.

Naw, it's a Chrysler sure grip. That's the 8.25 cone style. I'm unsure if Chrysler ever offered the Dana Powerlock in the 8.25. I've never seen one, but that means nothing. lol
 
The marks on the case were caused by a loose pinion nut. Should cause no issues, I ran a 8 3/4 like that hard for years. Replace the collapsible spacer and tighten the pinion nut properly. I think 210 ft.lb. is where you start.
 
Hi guy another problem ( or so ).
Because of the markes on the carrier i was supposing that the pinon was too far, and maybe removed the shim on the pinion.
The other pinion ( the 5:1) i removed had no shim at all.

The 3.21 pinion had 1 shim but because of the marks i made a try and removed the shim. But now, i still have play even i torque at 210 / 220 newton ( hard for me to go more than that ! )

I am in the wrong way and do i have to stop here not to try to torque too much ? Or do i have to torque really high in order to eliminate this play ?

What is strange for me is that when i put this pinion the first time ( with the older crush sleeve i admit ) everything was fine and i was torquing down normaly without excessive force and i was able to get 20 inch/lbs of preload easily.

Thanks. 210 ft lbs is 280 newton.. ok... i am far from that with 210 or 220 nm... ok ! So i think o am in the right way.
 
Hi all ! You all are holidays ?! :) everyone left !!

So, the car is back on the road with the 3,21.

It went quite well, 1 mistake but at the end it is good.

- after realising that it had to torque ver hard i finally eliminate the gap and crush the sleeve.
My mistake is here : I took the time to check at every 1/4 turn if I did not torque too much and the ONLY TIME i did not check i crush the sleeve a bit to much... i have 25/30... it will stay like that.
- good thing is the backlash. Had 0.0025 at first, 0.002 after torquing passenger side, it was not enough. After decreasing left side a bit i had a nice 0.008 after everyting torqued.

Pattern is acceptable. A bit low to me but..
We had to make our own bearing torque wrench with a socket and iron bar.

One more thing, i read that do do not do the first torque with the new nut and it is true, i totally destroyed the old one.. he became loose... i put the new after and it was fine.
