Rear-end buy price?

Mopar still has them, give John Cambridge a call. They're about $40 a set and come in 7", 8", or 9"lengths. I picked up a couple of the 8" sets last month.

Are u-bolts hard to find?
I am still looking for some myself. I have seen used ones on eBay before, but always for more than they are worth. I have not found a source for new ones.

Go to any "Spring" shop for the Big rigs, They can make up a set for you on the spot. I think I paid $15 for 4 when I added springs to my TrailDuster.

i agree if that rear is out of an early charger then it is already big bolt.... if it has small bolt then it is an a-body rear... plus the b-body rear is a little bit wider . you may have to watch what wheels you use...

Mancini racing sells the U-bolts. They give you a free set when you buy a set of leaf springs.

Sweet!!! Thanks for all the info guys! I am kinda of wondering if it was an A-body axel that was that was put under this car because this axel did have have the small bolt patttern plus it looked kind of narrow under this car and when I did a measurement from drum to drum it was the same as my rear I have under my car now. Plus this car had after maket springs on it and it looked like they did a crappy job of modding them to make them work. Is there going to be any casting numbers on it where we can trace it back to either A or B body? If not I have all the measurements for the 2 and figure it out that way.

Nope I must have been on smack when I was measuring it. It does have 4.5 bolt pattern and it is a B-Body rear. According to the tag it has 2.94 gears and its only limited slip. I got the shock mounts but they cut the u-bolts getting it out. But thats ok, I would rather just buy new bolts than busting my nuts on trying to make rusty ones work.

limited slip is what chrysler calls "sure grip", a non posi is called" open"
limited slip means that the other wheel will slip to a limit, where as a non limited slip will slip all the time, causing a "one tire frier"

so it is an open rear right? to run that rear you ar going to need some custom rims or something from a front wheel drive.....i dont think its that great of a deal....lot less work to use a jeep 8.25..... just have to change the spring perches, whick you can buy pretty cheap, just mesure yours and weld the new ones in the correct place...

yes I meant thats its an open rear. I just thought I would need wheels with a little deeper offset. I haven't heard of this needing custom wheels or front wheel drive wheels. I will have to look into this.

Check out the rims for late model Mustangs, they have alot of backspacing. Not necessarily the actual factory ones, but when looking at aftermarket rims check the Mustang applications.

According to the Marh issue of Mopar Muscle that has the article for for this swap I am going to have an extra 1.8 inches of axel sticking out each side. I was taking some measurements and the current rims and tires should go back on with no problem. The only thing is they are 235/60 R14. I would really like a 27 or 28 inch tire with a 15 inch wheel in which case I will need a lot more backspacing. I figure I can get my old man to help me figure the wheels and tire part out. Back in his younger days he worked for goodyear.

Here's an update on my search for Dana 44 info. The Jeep guy's tell me that if your pushing 400 or more HP that the 44 will not last long. The newer ones which are aluminium are junk. They think that some of the older ones, (back in the 70"s) may be allright.

I was planning on updating the rear to disc breaks will I gain any space back or does disc take up just as much room as drums? Also if I find wheels became to big of an issue why couldn't i have have the the rear cut down? Is it just to much money to have done?
