Lol, Some poor guy probably got a bag with only half a seal in it.....Just found it odd that there are 3 pieces.
Yee haw!!! Got the car back together and drove it today. No oil leaks!
The oil seal that came in the car leaked. It was similar to the one I used with the metal rod in it. It had been trimmed. The first one I put in I trimmed. It leaked a lot. Possibly because of a hack job on my part. The last seal I put in I did not trim. It extended approximately 0.80 inches above the seal surface (about 0.40 each half).
I am not generally a fan of data sets with one or two results, but for me the using the seal as is seems to have worked out.
i would give it at least 2 weeks before i would jump with joy . but hopefully it's fixed .oil leaks suck i am fighting one myself .
Mike69 other than the length of the seal, how much trouble was it to extract and replace the seal half in the block? I have a 71 340 thats leaking. Ive only done the replacement on an engine stand during a rebuild. Not on my back. Larry
Ive never had any trouble with the junk felpro black seal???? this ones not my car or build..I’ve got a small leak which is giving me the ***** But it’s small the size of a 10c piece and I will Need to pull the engine due to having the kevko pan which slides in a unique way and the stud girdle as well . Headers I’ve have mastered to fit and remove once you have done it a few times. I have the junk felpro black seal with the wings . Will order that same seal as mentioned above.Mike69 do you have a part number for that seal ? It’s for 360 LA correct ?. Cheers

Felpro BS 40651 is the red viton seal, that was for a 74 360. The black seal was about $10, the red one was $25.
I didn’t think the 360s had the wings on the seals?[/QUOTE. Thank you just ordered one. The vitron seal is a better quality seal than the other type I think they are made out of neoprene .
