I am stripping the interior of my 65 Barracuda. Both of the rear windows are frozen. I need to roll these down to remove some screws. What do I need to do? I haven't had time to remove the panels yet, but I would think I might spray some nut buster or something to free them. Does this seem to be the best thing to do.

Pull the interior panels and spray penetrating oil on all the moving parts and tracks. Work the crank back and fourth, and sandwich the window between your hands and rock it up and down. Something should eventually work free.

I'm sorry, but some clarification is in order. When you say you haven't had time to remove the panels yet, do you mean the quarter panels, or the rear 'door' panels? Once the rear 'door' panels are off, getting the windows down should not be too difficult. If the gear mechanisms are stuck. I would agree with a liberal application of a rust buster spray (I like one called PB Blaster)and then wait. Those mechanisms can get water in them when the exterior window wipes go bad, but I have never had one that would not operate after some rust buster soaking and some judicious wiggling of the handle.

Thanks, I meant to say the door panels. I will try the penetrating oil or PB blaster. I am finding more and more rusty areas that nee addressing.

This happened to me but only one window. It turned out to be the crank mechanism where the handle is. Like the others say just work it back and forth a bit at a time. Once I got the handle to move one complete revolution it cleared itself and worked ok after that.

Awesome Keith. The handles will not move at all. I can't remember if they worked when I brought the car home or not. It has been garaged the last 3 years though. I'll remove the door panels when I get home tonight.

Yea if you have to remove all of the regulator take lots of pics. it's really awkward to get it all back together and working correctly. I had some pics with the camera poorly positioned in the car and those pics weren't a lot of help.
I only took one side apart and even though I had the passenger side to look at I still had a tough time getting the other side back together and working properly.

Great idea. I normally doe one side at a time. but pictures always help.
Thanks

Welcome to the MOPAR world. "finding more rust that needs addressing". EVERY "rust free california" car is the same.

I have a friend that drag races a Road Runner. Plate on the front says "Rusty"

I have the door panels removed and surprise, I found more rust. No rust through thank goodness. I went to the hardware this morning to purchase Ospho. That was recommended by some guys here. The local Ace Hardware can have it for me in 10 days. I would much rather have it this weekend. Any other products I may be able to use to aid me in this rust issue? I need to find something to spray so I can reach some areas I can't get to by hand.
Thanks

Thanks. Did Chrysler put a thick coating on the walls of the body. There are chunks of something laying in the bottom of the door. It almost looks like shingles from a roof laying there. Once I treat these areas with something for rust and use an epoxy primer, what else do I need to do to protect these areas. I would assume regular paint on top of primer, but do I need to do anything else to protect the body. I'm not sure, but I think the water came in from the worn whiskers, but could also have come from the rear window leaking as well. The rust is all of the way to the section of the body that separates the trunk area. The headliner is dry rotted and is coming out anyway. The rust is even over the areas where I was removing trim pieces from the top of the door. I don't know if that area has gotten wet or just from moisture.
Thanks for any advise.

That's the same stuff I found in my car as well. Mostly in the back by the rear windows. It looks like they sprayed from the inside of the car to the body panels. Mine was in small pieces so I just vacuumed it out and sprayed it with a real oily under coating then sprayed black paint on that so it wouldn't stay sticky. I had no real rust just lots of black bits and dust.

Thanks Keith. That's what I thought. Some of these are maybe 3in by 4.

Your car looks like it has a bit more rust than mine. Mine came from southern BC up here in Canada back in the early 80's when I purchased it.
