Got this rearend out of a 73 original V8 duster. Had power discs up front and drums in this 8.25 rear.

Any idea how to decipher what the gear ratio is and whether or not its a suregrip?

You don't have to decode anything. Either turn the pinion and count turns while you watch the ring turn once, or else count the pinion teeth and the ring teeth and divide the amount of ring teeth by the pinion teeth.

As others said:

Part number 285 2923
Ratio 2.45
Built 3/25/74
As for the 1 (first shift, but that is just a guess)

Itl be getting redone with probably 3:55s.

I have no use for any gears that start with a 2or 4 Lol.

Explain please?
I'd drive it around town in second, and use high gear above 50mph on the highway.
A friend and I drove home from bowling after midnight one night, in his low 2. something geared 305 camaro. 20 freeway miles. Didn't realize that we were in second gear the whole way (350 turbo) till we got off the freeway, and got a harsh downshift to first. (And we WEREN'T drinking, just tired).

You should at least drive it first. If you do any highway driving whatsoever, you'll regret those 3.55s.

Then why even have a car? Get a moped.

Because i live in town and have no use for highway driving, i dont control the local speed limits. Why is everyone suddenly against a car thats actually fast and doesnt take off like a hyundai out of the dig? Lol

Not against it at all. Put a 5.57 gear in it, I don't care. My car runs great.

If I switched wm out I'd split the difference between what you have and what you claim to want.... Either 2.94 or maybe a 3.07, which was used in alot of newer 8-1/4 applications. Definitely available aftermarket. I probably wouldn't go higher (numerically) than 3.21/3.23
I've had a few vehicles with 2.94 including 2 ex squad diplomats and an 87 B250 van and that's really a decent all around gear set
I've also had 3.55s in a few, the only one I recall w/I overdrive was an 83 D250 but it had tall (235/85-16) tires.
