Good afternoon,

I've recently purchased a 1967 Dart 270 with the stock 273 and 2bbl. It has dual exhaust, but I'd like to know if there's a nice set up that will let me put a 4 bbl on, and a little bit lumpier cam. Nothing crazy, just a mild street cam that gives some lope to the idle. I've read that Edelbrock has a nice intake for them.

Do you guys have a go to cam that you use that works nicely in the car? 500 cfm carb?

Curious to hear thoughts. If it's best to leave it stock because of minimal improvements made without spending truckloads of cash, I'm alright with that too.

Thanks!

Doug

A couple of things to keep in mind on the 273-
For a cam, choose on the mild side- something that is considered mild in a 340/360 gets magnified in a 273 and can be pretty rumpity. It's been ages since I built a 273, so I can't give a current cam recommendation, but "back when" something close to the old 340 cam was still decent-mannered on the street.
You'll probably need to swap over to hydraulic lifters and cam for something on the mild side. Heck, I would even consider a stock 360 cam for a 273.
For an intake, my first two choices would be the factory 4 bbl. ('66- '67 only, earlier ones had different bolt sizes and angles) or the old Edelbrock LD4B if you can find one. These both have proper sized ports for the little 273/318 heads. An Eddy performer is a viable second choice, it's ports are a compromise between the big and small ports and work okay on the small heads. Other options would be the Eddy Streetmaster 318 or the SP2P which both have the small ports, and work "okay" on mild motors. None of these other than the Performer are in current production, so you'll need to start hunting.
A 500/600 cfm carb would be more than enough for your motor.
I'm sure others will chime in with other options, too.

Some good info above. Watch the bigger cams though. You only have a 8.5/1 compression 273. If you switch to a hydraulic cam you will need cam, lifters, and special length pushrods.

My brother has one in his 67 Barracuda that is a mystery but runs pretty decent, it's the low compression 273 with the eddelbrock ld4b and a vs 600 holley on it, it has little lope im thinking it's most likely a 340 cam in it but with 4.30 gears and a 4 speed it runs 14's and destroys tires and will do it all day long.

Too big of a cam in too small of an engine and you may need a higher stall torque converter and/or rear gears to make it work. Especially with low compression. A 340 cam in a 318 can do that. In a 273 it's even worse.

Give Jim a call at Racer Brown (don’t have tge number right offhand) and tell him what you got and what you’d do. He did a cam for my 66 273/235 motor. Nothing radical. I haven’t decided on which intake to use yet - the LD4B or the stock single plane Commando intake

Nothing wrong with using the stock 4bbl cam either. It works great even with the lower compression ratio that the 2bbl has. I put an Isky solid lifter cam with specs very close to a stock 273HP on a '68 273 2bbl engine converted to a 4bbl, and it worked great. Mine was a 3.23 ratio 4 speed car though, so YMMV.

LD4B for the win!

Edelbrock has a nice intake
I'm running a Edelbrock #2176 on my 318 stock heads and a Comp part # 20-212-2 cam.Using a 600 Edelbrock carb.
Runs very well for a basic stock 318. I would recommend a 500 for better throttle response on the street.
I used what I had.

They say timing is everything. Just snagged a beauty of a LD4B off ebay.

Thanks for all the recommendations everyone!
