Hey all! I’m a 23 year old resident of Missouri. I’m currently in college to be a PE teacher and graduate here shortly. I had a wife and daughter that I plan on sharing my cars with. I joined because I was finally able to buy one of the cars I dreamed of as a kid. My neighbors beat up 1970 Plymouth duster (pictures below in chronological order)
I’ve been after this car since high school, but my neighbor was one of those kind of guys that always says “I’ll fix it up someday” even though he’s let it sit in the woods for 40 years. I’ve thrown offers at him and eventually decided to stop my efforts. Although I still called once or twice a year. Eventually he took my number down and said I didn’t have to call anymore, and that if he decided to sell, he would call me. It was about 10pm when he randomly called me to let me know that he was ready to accept my offer of $2,500, I don’t know if that was too much or not for its condition, but we were both happy with it. I make youtube videos based on classic car resurrections, and figured the car would make for great content, and the first video alone has over 122,000 views (If you’re interested in the videos, go to Classic Auto Rescues on YouTube). My dad and I went the next day to drag it out before the owner could change his mind. We literally had to cut it out because trees were smashing the car in. It took 6 hours in the 100 degree weather but we got it out.
Fast forward to today, the engine is at the machine shop (cylinder #5 of the 340 had some scoring, and figured that now would be the best time to get this done). Good time to mention that the engine isn’t original to the car, it came out of a 70 or 71 340 duster after the previous owner blew the original one up. I’m still buying up parts I will need when I find them for a good price. It’s gonna be a long journey, but hopefully I’m on the road just in time for summer cruises.
