Ring and ring gap questions

My engine machinist is not a fan of Keith Black pistons. Myself, I think they are fine but you need to follow the installation instructions. I'm old school and still like heavy slugs and use them in my builds! 65'

The worst thing about them is that stupid, silly, retarded, ludicrous, WWII era 5/64 5/64 ring pack.

If they would even just cut it back to 1/16 1/16 that would be a huge improvement.

Mine isnt either when we couldnt find .060 over speed pros he recommended me use the 405s over the kbs but I'm stubborn and wanted what I wanted lol

Yes, as long as the other set of rings doesn’t have a bevel. If it does, look at the face of the ring and the one with moly in it is the top. If neither have moly and both have a bevel it doesn’t matter.
Only one has a bevel. But according to the instructions it's the second ring

That’s weird. So the ring without moly in it has a bevel, and the ring with the moly does not have a bevel????

If so, that is weird.
Yea best I can tell. The cast ring according to hastings is the one with the dot and bevel. The moly ring has no dot and looks straight to me. I will get some pics in the morning.

The rings are different.
What he said^^

put the wrong rings in a ROUND hole cover the center opening, then shine a light up from the bottom. IDK if this works on a 4" bore, but when I do it on a motorcycle engine, I can see the light sneaking around the OUTSIDE of the ring; not good. Your leakdown will definitely suffer.
I used those Plasma-Moly, file-fits in my 367 and after the heads went on,I could barely read the LD... on the engine stand. Needless to say I was pretty pumped about that.
Unfortunately, a couple of hundred miles later. I had to pull the engine out and open up the gaps some, as the engine ran hot, and locked up every time I shut it off. Sometimes I had to wait 30 minutes before the Dakota starter could crank it over. Lesson learned. Afterwards, it was click-vroom-vroom,lol. I love that mini-starter.
