I have a 87 318 roller lifter engine with a Comp cam xe268 cam in it with the Comp supplied lifters. Can I simply swap out the Comp lifters and install my newly acquired OEM roller lifters for this block? Also, yes I have the factory short pushrods and the steel spider. Will this setup work o.k. with the Comp cam grind?

If I'm not mistaken, the XE268 is a hydraulic flat tappet cam. The lobes of a flat tappet camshaft are ground with a very small taper to promote lifter rotation. Without even considering the effects on timing of contact area (flat vs. roller) - I'd imagine the uneven loading on the roller tappet axle to do awful things to the axle/roller.

Cliff's notes version: nope.

you want to run oem hydraulic roller lifters on the compcam flat tappet hydraulic cam?

Thanks for the info. I'll call Comp tomorrow morning and see if they can recommend a grind.

just a note...you will need the dogbones and spider for the oem lifters.
