Build yourself a nice SB /408 stroker and smile for days!

383 is Heavy! Hard to fit and needs custom everything! JMO!

^^ ditto^^
It can work though: use HP logs, nested U channel for mounts in a "pocket knife" manner,( one side bolts to bock, other side swings open and bolts to K). Low rise Holley Street Dominator intake, TQ carb. Stroker 360 fits better. Can actually get headers to fit.

If you do not have a factory BB car, Obviously not with a 66. stay Small with Big HP #'s!

Some of us have considered dropping back to SB, Not really as it effects resale! But to me an "A" with big power SB is the way!

Thanks guys, unfortunately I have been sitting on the 383 for awhile waiting on the right cuda - I just didn't do my homework on 66 frame and limitations. I'm ok with some mild fab work and really want to stick with the 383, unless I can find someone relatively local that has a 360 to trade.

Any chance you have a pic of those fabricated mounts, or drawing? Not giving up yet, LOL

RapidRobert's pics. See how its just 2 U channels and a tube? The bushing in the tube is a plastic pipe. There is no isolation in these mounts. you can mount them to biscuit mounts or run them solid. If you run HP manifolds, youll need all the shim you can get to the passenger side to clear the steering shaft. I actually sanded off the casting numbers on the passenger side to get another 1/8 inch! You can also mill the driver side about 1/8 inch or better, angle mill it about 3 degrees so its closer to the block but then you run into mounting bolt interference. I ran studs and just bent them down! Have to pull motor to do any exhaust work (or anything else for that matter). Damn the exhaust gaskets, they will take up some room! I have these drafted up somewhere on this site, cant find them anymore.

Man you are giving me hope! Have you done the project I'm trying to do, BB install in early A?

It's been done. I would recommend starting with late 60s mount brackets and fabricating from there...
