Went and got the 8 .75 rear end, here is the results I'm pretty happy other than it was missing one axle which was not communicated to me. But I got it anyway
Numbers on the housing are 2881489, which it says online it's 1 7/8 tapered penion shaft, large 9 stamped in the gear housing which says its a 489 housing, and it did have factory gear tag, 323 gear, it did turn free and was no slack in the penion or the left axle, More thoughts on the 150.00 find

489 case and 3.23 gear are worth more than the 150 if it is good. Now narrow the housing and set er up.

You probably already know this, but you can mount that axle in your car by moving the spring perches inboard, I think the overall width is something like 1 or 2 inches more than a standard A body 8 3/4. Find the missing axle shaft, a pair of axle perches and you should be good to go !

Can you tell me the length of the one axle you have? I may have one. I went this route on my 63' at first. I narrowed a truck housing for mine now and still have the B body stuff. Let me know how you measure it and I will check what I got.
