I dont know how many of you guys follow NHRA. But Funny Car driver Scott Kalitta was killed today in a crash at the end of one of his qualifying runs. The event is in Englishtown, NJ. Another big blow to the NHRA family.

Damn, that is truly sad. My condolences to Scott Kallita's family and friends. i was going to tape the qualifying sessions today, but figured I'd just watch the finals on Sunday.

Glad I didn't tape it.

My thoughts and prayer to his Family and fan's.
I did knot know about this tragedy till know.:sad1:
The Kalitta family are and has been a great NHRA contributer to
so many designs and history in this great sport.
Scott Will be missed. Sad Day For Me.
And his father and folks around him.
Nothing can be worse then to lose a son .[-o<

NHRA SuperNationals drag races at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J. is where it happened

What's up with that wall anyway? I used to race at Great Lakes Dragway and least someone could end up in a corn field if worse came to worse.

i haven't seen the very end of the Bandimere track thank goodness.

My apologies if anyone is offended by the video. I didn't realize it would imbed the video here. I thought it would just have the link

Ooops, it works now, sorry for the double posted video. WTF is with that wall? Shouldn't there be a sand trap or something safer there. I bet those stupid track owners feel pretty dumb about now. :thebirdm: That crash was bad......

I don't get it.
NHRA putting a concrete wall at the end of the track with out a sand trap or a catch net.
I just don't under stand why the wall had to be there.
Scott had the best gear and safety requirements and the track did not.
I don't get it.

There is sand at the end and a net to catch the ride.

Sand area looks way short to me at that track. Not long enough to stop a car going 300+

Sorry to the Kalitta family and sad day for the NHRA.

It looks like the fire destroyed the chutes. What was the concrete barrier protecting? The woods? Was there homes or something behind it? Road maybe?

Theres nothing beyond the track of any concern on public saftey or wild life or what ever. It is still fair distance to the road from the end of the track

I,m posting this with tears in my eyes . I,ve been a fan of drag racing for 40 of my 50 years. My boss ran a nhra pro mod team and also fielded two nhra comp eliminator cars. Fan is an understatement . I live and breathe this stuff and this is a truly great loss to our sport. My condolences to all family and friends. Its a hell of a lot more dangerous to push the envelope than the average fan realizes. Nascar has stepped up with new safer barriers and new cars .I think its time nhra adressed safety in our sport a little more aggresively. Scott you will be missed.:sad11::sad11::sad11:

Yes, was sad day for NHRA. I saw it on my computer yesterday and could not believe what I saw, My heart goes out to his family and friends. He was just way to young to go out like that.

Alot of us are focusing on the crash and not the fire. How about the fire guys? What condition would he have been in after that kind of fire?

Your lucky Tony, I would have never wanted to see that crash in person either. What can I say about Scott other than I'm deeply sorry for him and his family and this is a real crappy way to get a Sunday started.

Surpisingly enough their suits protect them for the most part as most of the flames are around the cars. John Force years back would burst into flames almost every single pass when he was going thru blowers like he was trying to start a trend.
