This is my first post on this forum and I am also new to Mopars. I have searched the forum, but cannot find an answer to my questions.

I am in the market for either a 63-66 Valiant convertible or a 62-66 Dart convertible, and I am kind of tall.

Is there an easy way to move the seats back (buckets or bench) for more leg room? I found a site that offered extension brackets, but I didnt get a good feeling.

Do the seats bolt flat to the floor? If yes, then I should be able to make extention brackets out of flat pieces of steel, right?

Do Valiants and Darts have the same interior space? I sat in both and the 63 Valiant seemed to have more legroom. The Dart (it was a 64) seemed more cramped and it felt like my chest was up very close to the steering wheel.

Any guidance will be greatly appreciated!

I used universal extension brackets on my Polara drivers seat. They worked out ok and gave me the leg room I needed. The seats are bolted to the floor butthe fasteners are between a u shaped channel on the underside. If you move the seat back, you should move the reinforcements as well.

Thanks very much for the info. I saw the universal ones, but I am always very sceptical of the fit/quality anything called "universal", so was hoping there might be something better out there.

I think I also saw a site offerimg steel reinforcing plates specifically for this purpose, so I would definitely get those.

I think I also saw a post saying that Darts have three mounting holes on the floor to allow owners to easily remount seats farther back. No too confident that this is true.

Hoping to hear from some Valiant/Dart experts as well. Any advice on making these cars fit tall drivers better will be welcomed.

Thanks again!

The universals were a bit tricky. Getting the hardware in the right places so bolt heads cleared the tracks was the issue. There were no instructions but now that I think about it, I should have tried to install them between the base and floor instead. :BangHead: :BangHead:

Dang, what was I thinking? I wasn't aparently.

The buckets in my 1970 Dart had a provision in the tracks to move the studs that go through the floor forward, moving the seat backward. It isn't easy as you have to remove the seats, see if there are alternated stud locations in the tracks (mine had 3 or 4), Hold the tracks and then drive the studs out and move them. The additional thing to consider is that there are black factory nylon spacers to put between the tracks and the floor on the studs to raise the seat. There are several sources for repops. This made a big difference for my long legs.

The early cars had an adjustment in the seat tracks because they are 2 piece tracks with an upper and lower part, unlike 67 and up.

You can drill new holes in the floor and put the seats anywhere you want them as long as each mounting point is reinforced with a section of metal to make double thick than the single floor pan.

I fabbed the track and moved the seat in my coronet because I have the opposite problem being well under 5 foot tall.

I have a good friend who recently bought a 69 Dart GT Convertible. He has a 65 Dart Convertible that he has owned for quite a while that he will be selling soon. It is a /6 with a factory 4 speed. If you are interested, I'll contact him and see if he is ready to sell. He ordered new seat covers, and he was going to fix up a few things first, but might change his mind if you were interested. It runs very well.

Yearone sells seat extensions, that can be easily made.
