Looking for a serial number from the block of a 273 commando engine. Have no reason to think that isn't what I have, just pulled the motor and saw a number on the block and was curious.
 
273 does not have a VIN. Generally, unless it was a remanufactured engine and they restamped it, there should be a long number on front of block below the driver side head parting line

I forget the 3,4,5th figures or so is the CID, whether 273, 318, etc.
 
The engines have their own individual serial numbers, but they are not VIN related.

Which model year is it from?
 
65 273 commando. I guess I was asking for a casting number, not a serial number.
 
OK, if you want to look for the serial number anyway, front face of the block right below where the drivers side head gasket would be.
 
I see the number, just checking to see what the number should be. Does the standard 273 commando and the standard 273 use the same block.
