Hey everybody, I have two pretty different questions that I decided I should just put in one thread. The first question is: Is double-clutching necessary when driving A-833-equipped cars? I thought they were synchronized, but somebody on another forum told me that when driving his old A-833 OD equipped vans/trucks, he has to double clutch or match the RPM's in between shifts. Could his synchros just be worn out, and he doesn't know any better?

Second question: A little while ago I drove my Duster up the street to get the mail and make sure my repainted valve covers still sealed well. Well, I forgot that near the end of my street is a 100-foot-long stretch of black ice followed by a 5-inch-deep pothole (more like a trench); you can imagine me in my own little world thinking about stuff and tooling along at 20 mph down the street, then seeing/remembering the ice and pothole and how easy it is to lock up my brakes, followed by an :tongue9:"OH ****":tongue9: and a fruitless attempt to slow the car down or turn out of the way before hitting the pothole. Now, I don't know how fast I was going upon impact, I think around 15 mph, and when I hit that pothole it was quite a BANG--BANG. I drove back to my house and everything felt normal, I also looked underneath with a flashlight at everything and I only saw a small dent on the gas tank. Do you guys think I messed anything up? Upon reflection I thanked God that I wasn't driving our minivan, which would surely have been screwed even if I hit it at half the speed.

You shouldn't have to double clutch an 833, I never did and I drove lots of them. I even had one with a worn out 3rd gear syncro cone and still didn't have to.

I thought so. I guess his must be in pretty bad shape then for him to need to double-clutch. I drove my Duster more today and it seems fine, I guess it took it pretty well. I love how much better gas mileage it gets now, it's been a week since my last fill-up and it still has 3/4 of a tank left! Of course my mom's just been driving it to work and back about 3 miles away every day, but that's still better than before. Just have to wait until it's empty to calculate how well it did. My mom loves driving it to work now also, she says it's loads of fun to drive and she doesn't have to worry about stalling out when going through an intersection any more. I just need to get a stinkin' job and my license!
