Should I sell

-
My daily driver is a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, just this past weekend I was out shopping for another Ram 1500, almost pulled the trigger on a 2021 Laramie, when I went for gas on Monday price for regular unleaded was $4.68 a gallon, now I am seriously re thinking purchasing a Ram.

You guys are right , I’m gonna keep her and continue to enjoy, but let’s all be realistic, I’m 60 and have a love and nostalgia for these cars, but I can’t get my mind off of the fact that we are just a bunch of old guys that can’t let go of the past. We all remember our dads saying “I remember when “. I just never thought I’d get to that age so quickly.
looks like my 68 gts bb 4 speed

If gas prices bother you vs driving a classic car...

A potential remedy would be to (temporarily) swap the big block out for something like a 5.2 Magnum.

Still fun to drive (esp with 4 speed).

Unfortunately I believe that the gas combustible engine is on its last leg,and we are the last of a dying breed

I would not believe the nonsense on what we used to call the news. Gas engines put out virtually no emissions and are very efficient. Our 2018 Hemi Charger gets 30+ mpg and is our "trip" car. We can get 500 to 600 miles per fill up. Never an electric car for me.

I restored my 68 GTS H-Code dart, no fender tag or build sheet, has a 68 date coded 383, she’s a 4 speed, I have 28k in receipts, the way gas prices are going I’m wondering if I should bail out and sell, not sure where the market is, I really don’t need the money, but I’m noticing prices of these cars falling and don’t want to say a couple years from now that “ I should’ve sold it “,So what do you guys/Gals think about bailing out?

I think if you sell that car, you will regret it for the rest of your life. I have always had an early Barracuda with a 273 and 4 speed. I can't imagine not having one. People come up to me all the time telling me about selling a car and wishing they had kept it.

Agreed but depending on ones situation, priorities should prevail.
I regret selling my car in 1974 but the sale of it eliminated a car payment and two years later at 23 years old we bought our house.
I waited a very long time to get back into old cars and I dont intend on ever selling unless to get something else

Some of it it kind fit in this discussion, to a point. There is a reason I won't even look in the N&P forum. Thanks for clarification.
I wish I was as smart as you.
Have a good day, out to Costco

Talking in another thread. A 4 hour trip north to Minneapolis area for Mopar's in the Park.
These are rough figures but: 250 miles @ 18 mpg=13.8 gallons @ $5 a gallon is $69.44 x 2 (round trip) = $138. Still fairly reasonable for a weekend of fun with a bunch of Mopar Motorheads.

Not smart, but I do know what I like. After that it gets easy.
Granddaughter is talking about going to Clemson. Carolina's are beautiful.
As much as I dont want her to go so far away, I feel she will be safer there than at other schools.

I will drive and enjoy my car hobby until I die. At my age, a few more years or tomorrow??
I am trying to thin the herd of 5 down to 2. Now is a great time to sell a modern used car, but a collector car, maybe not.
The country is just now coming off the pandemic crap, stupid politics, gas and yes food and supply shortages in general, gas stupid high and will get higher, Ukraine/Russia BS.... is this a good time to sell a classic car!? no
Do I see any classic car sellers getting down cheap and dirty!? no

Cars at BJ were plenty crazy high, but that is another whole can of worms. Drunk rich worms!?:poke:

I knew an old guy back decades ago, that had a Roadrunner and was too old to drive. Lived out in the sticks like me. He would go out and start it up every day or so, just sit there and listen to the engine. He had some cool tales to tell.

Back when I had my '66 Commando four speed Barracuda I had guys come up to me at car shows wanting to sit in it because they had one like it. At the time I was in my 20s and these guys were in their 40s. That idea stuck with me. I did sell the '66 in 1985, but kept the GTS convertible and had future plans to build a big block A-body. Now, a few big block cars since I don't regret that decision, but the Barracuda was a blast to drive.

You worry too much.
How close are you to poverty that a few dollars more worries you this much?
Yeah, the increases are not good but it isn’t a deal breaker for me. Why let some bullshit like this get in the way of what you want ?

I gave you a red X because you're not going anywhere tomorrow or a few more years
I dont want to hear that.......

If that was my car i would consider my burial plans complete. full tank, six pack on the front seat and a permanent big smile on my face, oh, and a big backho to dig that giant hole, don't sell, you'll regret it.

Thanks for the good thoughts!
I do say this, no matter what your age. Live life to the fullest and be the best person you can be. Our days on this Earth are limited..for some more than others.

Toys are toys, they come and go. But, I have never sold an old Mopar that I was glad to find it gone,,but I have sold off plenty that I really wish I had kept!!!We all have no doubt.

I have seen death up close a few times over the years. Last time was about 1/2 year ago. I had been putting up fence for weeks and next thing I knew, I had 2 arteries 98% blocked, the third was ?? blocked, waiting in a Houston hospital for blood thinner to leave after they popped in stints that would not work and on top of that Hurricane Harvey's flood had taken the city!! NO surgery on generators!! 21 days later I left the hospital with a triple bypass. Some nurses had been there almost as long as I. They could not get home!!
life is short..try to live life and have no regrets. Think ten times and act once!

I would never sell my car because of the price of gas. I restored it to enjoy it and the smile I get is worth every penny I spend on gas.
