I have a 67 Dart and its getting real close on getting on the road. Has anyone installed rear seat belts with the shoulder belt set up. After market or other? I have 2 great kids and want to keep them as safe as possible and to me a lap belt isn't what I want......Any ideas or pics are greatly welcome. Thanks

A lot of newer cars have plastic covers on what I call bump ups in the package shelf. Retractors mounted underneath. Shoulder belt passes through the bump up covers.
Something like this could be grafted in and look decent. I once considered using these parts from a 88 Accord in my 67 notch back but... Adding latches to the front bucket backs and front shoulder belts took priority. Spent my coins in that.

Thanks that helps out

I was concerned about the same thing with my kids but I also addressed the whiplash part of it also. Since the back seat on my 69 Cuda has no headrests I figured I would kill two birds with one stone. I got a piece of 1 1/2" X 1/8" metal strap and bend it to fit around the back seat cushion and mounted it into the same holes that support the back of the seat. The metal strap had to be mounted very securely so the it could handle the G forces during and accident. Anyway I built the metal frame, attached it to the body then mounted my (store bought) shoulder harness seat belts to it. These are sold with the reel which can be mounted hidden back behind everything. If you look closely at the pics you can see that I mounted the reels low. I basically made smooth loops at the top corner on both ends of the metal strap for the belt to pass through. I also used this metal strap to use as the frame for my stereo system. I welded tabs to the back side of the metal frame so I could attach a sheet of 1/2" plywood into which I installed some 10 speakers and amps. I also used the metal frame to mount my "now famous" BARRACUDA head rest for the rear passengers solving the whiplash problem.
Hope this helps....

That was some good thinkin on your part, looks great and thanks for all the info. Giving me some ideas

You're welcome, I presently have the front head rest covers off to get some "mean looking" barracuda pics embroidered onto them. You probably also saw the front reel type shoulder harness rigs on my front seat as well. My daughter is supposed to start driving in about 8 months and I want her as safe as possible when she drives the 'Cuda to school.
Good Luck with your modification!!!
