Why do we always try to fix things that aren't broken! (LOL)
cos were car guys
i've been on fabo now since around 2007. i really would like to know from the owner/administrator WHY the change in format was necessary. i found the old site very easy to use and enjoyable to log onto once or twice a day just to see new posts and check for up-dates to already posted items. as is the case with ALL "internet" web site "updates" fabo has now become much harder to use and understand. i'm guessing that the format change had to do with the owners making more money off of a different arrangement - that seems to always be the case with web site changes. what seems ironic to me is that the fabo community are NOT "young kids who wake up each day with a smart phone or tablet in their hand." i would put a $20 dollar bill on a bet that the average age of fabo members is probably in their 50's. you have to be "of a certain age" to know anything about "old mopars." i would guess that there are many "senior citizens" like myself who don't want a thousand "options" on web sites they use frequently but just want to be able to log onto the site and look around without learning a bunch of new commands and procedures. so again i ask the owner/adminstrator - why did you trash your old format which was very easy for your older fabo members to use in favor of this "new and improved" format? i will continue to log onto fabo to TRY and find the same old information and comments that i used to be able to access quickly. but i suspect that i will just not be on this site as much as i used to be. i would be interested in hearing comments from other members who are not experiencing any "warm and fuzzy feelings" over "the New FABO."
oh... and i have already experienced "the new" outlook on the "new" fabo site: apparently, a rather mild, non-profane comment i made about a guy who is trying to sell his "hemi cuda recreation" without posting any pictures has run afoul of the apparent "politically correct" "overseers" monitoring this site. i was notified that my comment "had been edited" and when i logged on to see what that meant, most of my comments had been removed from my posting and replaced with a very mundane and moronic sounding statement. WELCOME TO THE NEW FABO... i can only assume that this site has now been captured by "ultra-liberal" car collectors - if there even are such animals out there....
I am not speaking for this site's owner, but as the owner of another large automotive forum which is running the same software FABO was on. The old software was top notch - 5 years ago. Since then the Internet has changed dramatically from a desktop/laptop based experience to a tablet/smart phone experience. On my site I am now at 50/50 with mobile increasing each month. Windows used to be the #1 OS for accesing my forums, now it's Android, then Windows. The version of the software which the forum was on hasn't been supported for several years. Worst of all, the "upgrades" from the company which created the old software was terrible, and nothing like the version you were used to. I waited as long as I could before deciding on the same software which is now running on this site. I will be going live with the new software within the next couple months. This new software was written by some of the folks who wrote the old version. They went on to form a new company, and their product is very solid. Dig around and check out the features.
hi ab7fh... thanks for your comment. i can fully appreciate what you are saying. i am typing this comment on a HP "home computer" which is over 5 years old and is running on microsoft "vista" software - which i have been informed will no longer be supported by microsoft so i will need to download/buy "windows 10" or maybe even a new computer. i also use a 5 year old "flip phone" and do not text, tweet, or any of the other "advanced" phone "apps." i suspect that there will be a collision on "old car" sites between the "senior citizen" members who like these sites and all the advanced electronic stuff that is happening on the internet supporting these sites.
Just get a new computer with windows 10. If you try to upgrade the old one, the drivers will not work with that old system....
I could give you a bunch of technical reasons -- but that wouldn't be very helpful to you. Short answer is this. It was becoming harder and harder to modify the old software to keep up with newer technology. People with newer technology need to access the site also. We had a choice, we could move forward or we could stand still. Standing still would mean problems would continue to multiply. Believe me, I have put myself through a lot of expense and a lot of work just to get this far, and I have a lot farther to go still. I didn't do it because I was having a slow week, I did it because I deemed it to be more and more necessary. All that said -- things really aren't all that different. If you just give things a chance, I am confident you'll see that. Well, the majority of things are just as easy to find. If you need help finding something, just ask. I am happy to help as are many others.
Your site navigation and changes suck . It was much better before .
Don't mean to be negative . Maybe I just don't like change !! Hence the love for old cars !! Thanks for the cool site !!!
Um, well.. Some specifics would be a whole lot more helpful. What cant you find?
I res I respect this,Chi-Joey has been notifying FABO members, for well over a year(S?). It seems to work well, just timexto learn & play.
Ditto... As n IT Manager for Local Government, I feel your pain. Keep plugging away Joey the hardest part of any project has nothing to do with the technology, it's people and change.
Just like the weather channel, changes their site every couple years, by the time I get used to it, changes again. Hopefully this change is here to stay and hope I can access the things I like with ease just as before. D.
I like the old system better not that it matters
"Like me", please. Change is hard. (Platitudes don't help. And may not even be universally true) Software designers make money on new software. I'm convinced there is some job security involved in that. That's why my perfectly good smart phone wants to keep downloading Gingercookie update or some crap that I don't want or need. So I keep background data disabled on it. I also turn off the update app and everything that looks like that. I can't watch videos but google and the CIA don't know where I am that way. All that being said, I was just able to drop and drag multiple pictures here to upload from my Window 7 laptop. That's an improvement. NO MICROSOFT. I DON'T WANT WIDOWS 10! By the way Ab7fh has a new avatar. Must be a plot.
adapt or perish... sounds like it was this new software or no site at all... I'm pretty old school/hate change myself - but this isn't bad at all.. betcha it could have been worse.. imagine losing the site all together!!!
The only thing that frustrated me was opening it up and not having the newest posts be on the front page. However I found how to bring that up with one click so I am happy. Unlike many others I liked using the forum runner mobile app and am not a fan of actual smartphone browser tech, but I'll get used to it or I am sure a new forum app will be available for this site eventually. Can someone tell me how to clear the red balloon above garage showing me the number of unseen pictures?
Seems to be working well. Lots of new things to learn though. This system does lots more than the old one did and I was still learning about it. LOL
Im just mad all my thankyous went away and i didnt make the top ten poster list
I do agree with the thank you thing.. I felt like it helped ID folks who were going good on here.. and I was sorta proud of the ones I had gotten.. now it's a like instead of a thanks.. ehh.. that I am not so ok with.. oh well.
Its like anything new play with it and get familiar with it and it becomes easier to use or understand.
you mean kinda like... when you were 5.. and discovered you weren't the same as the girl next door....??
They didn't go away -- in fact I'm working on that right now.
nice - that is good news- I do see the icon for thanks - which I guees I must have overlooked before - we're almost whole again
