I have a 1980 Dodge Mirada . I was driving and the starter/power wire(picture link below) fell out while driving and the car shut off. Right before than I lost headlights and the radio. Only the high beams work. The major problem now is that the car will only stay running if I hold the key in the on position. As soon as I let it go, the car dies. Anyone ever have similar problems? Please help me! P.S. - My entire ignition system was upgraded and replaced.

Picture of the starter/power wire im talking about :

Sounds like your ballast resistor is toast.

EDIT: Hmmmm...1980 -- I don't know if it has a BR. Might be your ECU.

Could be the ignition switch itself too. If its a tilt column you could try different wheel positions.

Sounds like bad ballast or "dark blue" which is the ignition "run" from igntion switch is being lost.

i replaced the ignition switch already. did the same thing. not sure if it has a ballast resistor. im only 20 so excuse my unexperience. i will check into the ballast resistor and the dark blue wire. thanks gentlemen

You mean you have to hold the ignition switch in the START position? By "upgraded and replaced" you mean it's been converted from lean burn to standard electronic ignition? If so, put the ignition switch in the run (on) position and use a test light to find out where you have and haven't got juice. A good wiring diagram would help you find good test points.
