Small block headers: worst to best fitting. List your experience.

worst fitting is any of the hang low bullshit headers. hooker (competition), headman, flow tech, summit....etc..etc...etc

best fitting are tti and dougs.

And the TTI’s will make the least power and the Hookers (if you buy the race header) will make the most power.

Worst ones, flow tech, the cheap Hookers, best i have every had is the Hooker 5303, that are on my Duster now.

Yup, the 5303’s have beaten every header I’ve tested them against.

I have several engines getting ready to dyno. 340, 395 and 416 inches. I’m going to test them all with 5303’s and I also have a set of Hedman 1 7/8 headers I’m going to test too.

If I really feel like burning dyno time, I’ll test some TTI’s and some cheap *** headers I have that already beat the TTI’s.

I’ll see how it goes.

That would be great to see the difference between a 1 5/8 and 1 7/8, how much HP difference have seen with the 5303 over other headers in the past?

I’ll go out on Friday and pull up the last test and post the results.

The next tests will be far more comprehensive.

My 5303’s from Adrian (lead69 Thanks!) were easier to install than pulling my Doug’s. There pretty much is only one or two ways to install them, mixed Adrian’s and Tim’s instructions, but detachable collectors are the ****.

I installed Schumacher Tri-Y headers on my 73 Sport 340 with Edelbrock heads and a Borgeson steering unit. Had to ding the tubes on the driver side to clear the Borgeson piece, and then on the passenger side to clear the steering linkage.

No one mentioned.....
Doesn't look like there's a lot of street choices.

You can't find the good headers any longer. I called TA and they said that their headers won't fit a 1971 Dart. I was under the understanding all A body engine compartments were the same? Will fit a Demon but not a dart from what they said.

I used to run Hedman and hooker, then I switched to tti step headers.
With the exception of having to put a thick washer under each motor mount, solid motor mounts are what I use, the only real complaint is that with a 4-speed you have to cut the arm on your z-bar and move it over a little bit.. that and the fact that trying to put a clip on that clutch fork rod is damn near impossible once it's all in the car and bolted down.

All required the centerlink moved to install ..
Withoutna washer under the mounts, the idler scrubs the pass side header, hed/hook.
Hedmans n hookers hang the lowest on the driver's side..and end up 1st to hit dips and tracks..flat spots.
Hedman usually needs some hammering to clear power steering in a couple spots.
Tti needs z bar modified and washers if to clear power steering set up and center link even..

TTI's to 3" and a well built small block with good heads and .500 + lift/280*+ camshaft is the ticker between those 3.
