So I see this ad: http://spokane.craigslist.org/pts/2192180929.html and I think rear axle, disk brakes, 318/360 engine. and I call ....wrecked, etc.... "Have a title?" No, uh, see, ya don't need one 'cause it's wrecked, and like can't be fixed "Well I DO need one, can you explain why you don't?" Well, it's my wifes Dad's brothers cousins buddy.........I ...uh....MIGHT ...uh....be ....able..... So I search using his phone number and I FIND THIS GEM: http://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/2189428351.html AND I'M AMAZED TO READ THAT:
I'm gonna jump out and possibly sound like a dork, but......so whaddya think about this? You don't think it's stolen, do you? Where'd the dude get these vehicles?
I have never worried about titles for parts cars. I make sure I get a good bill of sale, but have never had an issue. The Jeep ad is gone. Was in listed under auto parts?
Speaking of tools with no titles,I saw this advertised locally: http://www.usedvictoria.com/classif...llengerGiddy-Up--Trade-for-RVTrailer_13933611 I especially like the line about "No biggie(find a smashed one)" Like there are smashed Challengers sitting on every corner for $50 with good paperwork...
I don't know how it is in other states but if you want to take a full car to a scrap yard to get scrap money, you need a title. Otherwise you have to cut it up so its not even a car anymore and haul it there in pieces.
I actually asked the girls down at the DMV about this, and she seemed to think there was no way around a title-- I'm in North Idaho -- it's a state of the mind.
I always take the parts I want, and then list it on Craigslist to see if someone wants to come get it. If not, I'll call one of the many guys in the area that will come haul it off for scrap.
I had a big hassle getting a '68 Ford registered (pre-title), then went back the next day, different clerk, vintage tag, 5 minutes, no trouble. Most of these clerks are not lawyers, and really don't care if you get your car regestered or not. They will tell you it can't be done just so they don't have to do any extra work or admit that they don't know everything.
It's been a few years since I've used one. Usually I can get someone to come haul it off by listing it on craigslist. The last time I had one of those guys come drag one off was in 2004, I think. They always say they'll pay you for your car, but then they don't want to when they show. I always expect them to pull that, so I don't care. I'll look and see if I can find some numbers for you.
Here's one in the Nickels Worth right now. I don't know who they are or anything, but there are usually a few people offering this service. It appears to be a Post Falls number. YOU CALL AND WE HAUL "free" with most of your old unwanted vehicles, depending on how far away they are. Mon.-Fri., 8am-5:30pm. 208-772-3993 Edit - It appears to be Garwood wrecking, so I'm not sure if they'll take it without title. But the guy I used before was just a guy. He didn't care. He just sold parts and cut the rest up for scrap.
Hmmm... The ads I'm finding now are asking for titles. Must be because of all of the methheads that were stealing everything under the sun for drug money. Jerks.
