Hi all,

I've just put a trans from a 83 chrysler into my 68 dart. I'm having trouble removing the cable from the 83 tranny. I've removed the bolt and clamp, looks to have a black plastic cover, that has small grooves at 12,3,6 and 9 o'clock, I'm thinking it may require a special tool,,,,,,has anybody removed one of these before? Also, will this throw my speedo accurtacy out of wack?

Thanks
RJ

There's no need to remove the complete speedometer pinion adapter housing. Just unscrew the cable from the adapter with the appropriate wrench.

As for those grooves. Those relate to how many teeth are on the speedo pinion. Different number of teeth for different rear end gear ratio's and tire sizes. Don't turn it from where it's at or you'll screw it up. Here's a picture of the adapter housing minus the cable. Ignore the notes on it. those were for someone else that had a leaking problem.
