Spring Fling 2025

Looks like an experience! I’ll make it down there some day… need you old guys to stick around for a few more years.

I hung around for the awards for once, and actually snagged one. My 3rd 3rd place… Alan edged me out for 2nd with the ride I sold to him… cruel irony. Of course it was the work he put into it that took him over the top.

Alan
wow! congrats! well earned for both of you!

alan doesn't toot his own horn much, so i feel that it needs mentioned that his work is absolutely top notch and the attention to detail is incredible. the effort he takes to preserve the originality of these cars and the parts is astounding. this car is the goods.

max, your car is a testament to the hard work you've put in and vision you've had for it all these years. the attention to detail and the tasteful upgrades are a nice mix of new meeting the old without messing up the flavor. a well deserved W my man!

Had a great time regardless of being able to have my truck at the show. Got to shake a bunch of hands, buy some parts, see a bunch of cool cars, and spend time with internet friends putting faces to names. @autoxcuda puts on a great event and takes care of the people there. Thanks for the T shirt and dash plaque Steve that was overly nice of you.

Spring Fling score. :)

Had a great time. Saw some of the A body guys. Great discussion, great cars. Another successful/fun weekend at the Spring Fling.

Hey Steve, tell us about your Satellite...

My 1966 Hemi Satellite is a 68K mile survivor. Original paint, interior, motor, etc. I bought it from a family friend, Pete Haldiman, that got me into Mopars when I was 17 years old looking for my first car. We went over to his house looked at his 8 car collection and drank lemonade out of Direct Connection glasses and I focused on 70-71 Challengers. GTO's were excluded. Pete was president of the National Hemi Owner's Association and owned a collection of Hemi cars representing the best of each year, 1964 to 1970. 64 Dick Landy Dodge, 65 A990, 66 Satellite, 67 WO Coronet, 68 Super Stock Barracuda, 69 Daytona, 70 Challenger. Most of these cars we featured in books and magazines.

Pete knew my dad since 1966. They both were civil engineers for the City of L.A. working in the Hollywood and City Hall offices together. I heard stories of lunch runs from City Hall to the original Tommy's hamburgers in this Hemi Satellite.

Pete bought the Hemi Satellite in 1969 with 14,045 miles a couple years after meeting the son of the owner at the street races in Huntington Beach. They both had 1966 Barracuda Formula S's. The son's 1966 Barracuda was bought at the same time as this 1966 Hemi Satellite and had consecutive license plate numbers with the Satellite. With just headers and 3.91 gears, Pete ran a best of 13.37 @106 at Lion's Dragstrip on 10/31/71. It was tuned at famed Nobu's Dyno Tuning of Hollywood right across the street from the office Pete and my dad worked at from 1970 to 1976. It was put back to stock soon after and has always been garaged and meticulously cared for since 1969. It was always registered, has 7 pages of detailed logged maintenance, has every receipt kept, but driven sparingly.

Pete liquidated his collection and moved into a retirement community, with a 3 car garage no less, about 10 years ago. But he kept his first Hemi car, this Satellite. In recent years it wasn't driven and Pete reached out to me to buy the car about 2 years ago. I jumped at it. Sadly about 8 months ago Pete unexpectedly passed. I bought all his literature and little remaining parts recently from his widowed wife so she didn't have to hassle with that.
