steering column rebuild

I need to disassemble and clean the steering column for 1967 Barracuda. Need help on how to take apart. The manual shows specialty tools. Is there a way to do this without the tools.

I used a phillips screwdriver and snap ring pliers to remove the upper ring that holds the upper column. It's pretty easy if you have mechanical ability which I'm sure you do.
