Can anyone explain to me what the correct coupler for a early manual steering box is? what does dd mean ? what are the numbers I need to connect a manual box to my power steering collum in a 66 coronet? thanks for any help.:read2:

Are you talking after market couplers?
The other thing is to check flaming River. I have a one of theres in my 74 Duster, power to manual extension. I noticed when you go to there site they have lots of part no.s but no explaination of what part no is for what.

I bought mine from RMS, I let him figure out what one to send me, and I got the right one!

Pete,
"DD" stands for the shape of a cross-section of the steering shaft. In other words, looking at the end of the shaft, it is shaped like two letter "D"s opposing each other (half rounds on each side). Other configurations will be:

Smooth round
Smooth round with flat on one side
Splined

Hope that makes sense,
Jerry

p.s. As stated above, manual to power will require an extension. Don't forget to check out Borgeson for their aftermarket products.

Yeah it makes too much sense. sometimes the obvious is not so obvious. I told you to check out Borgeson a while back. Do you know what size`and spline mopar boxes are?

The coupler we got for Aaron's '74 Duster (power steering box) was 5/8" - 36 spline x 3/4" smooth. It will be too short (2") for your application with a manual box, so you will be looking for the extension. I'm not sure about the input shaft on your manual box - if they are the same. Honestly, all I did initially, before beginning my research, was actually count the number of splines and use my digital micrometer to get the diameter. Counting splines is not easy for my 51-year old eyes.
