I recently installed all new suspension parts from Firm Feel in Cuda, and I have a problem.

First, I notice that when I am either steering into or leaving a parking lot (at a very slow speed) I hear a pop noise (usually just once) from the front end, like a component of the steering is rubbing against it self.

Secondly as I steer into a left turn on a back road, the steering wheel slips for about a second, where I feel like I have lost total control of the control. During this split second, the car will wander, which is scary. After about a split second, the steering wheel gains control and feels firm again, and steer out of the turn.

Any ideas on what is happening?

I donnnnoooooo but I WOULD NOT BE driving that car

Get a friend. Have him/ her turn the wheel back / forth while you get down and look underneath.

Check the column / coupler / spline for slippage

Steering gear loose at its 3 mounting bolts is my best guess. This was a more common fault in pre 67 models.

Found the problem...the steering gear was loose. I took video (since I had to troubleshoot along) to find the problem. All fixed now and steers great.
