I bought a T-Bucket a few months ago that came with Stewart-Warner gauges. Problem is, none of the electrical was hooked up on the gauges and there are no markings indicating where the various sending unit, power and ground connect to on the back of the gauges. I tried doing a Internet search for Stewart-Warner gauge wiring diagram. Everything is so generic it’s of little use. Some of the gauges have three post and some four, example given, amp meter gauge. Anybody know where I can find a good diagram that shows where the various wires are supposed to go on the gauge? I fried a wire on the amp meter gauge and I don’t want that to happen again!

They typically have a 12V power, a ground, a sending unit input and a dash light input. Use a magnifying glass to look closely near each post. My S-W gauges have a very lightly stamped identifier next to the post.

I'm wiring up a bunch of new gauges too, so I feel your pain. You can daisy chain the ground and power wires to keep those wires shorter and cleaner.

Can you find the part numbers on the gauges? If so, try Googling them. You can also use an AI function like GROK to assist you in finding the wiring diagram for each gauge.

As a general rule, a true ammeter is just a current flow through gauge. No ground or sender connection.

This. Also if panel mounted two studs are usually the holding bracket. Also you need the matched sending units also.

I appreciate all the great advice! It’s also good to know about the amp meter gauge. One of the diagrams I found online for an amp meter showed a wire coming off of the alternator going on one Post and the other Post going to the positive battery side. However, it also showed a ground wire, maybe for the gauge light? I will get out there with a magnifying glass and look at the back of the gauges. I did it with the naked eye and saw only one gauge that had an S for sender, I believe. My only win on trying to figure out these wires was getting all of the gauge lights to light up, however, it was to a constant 12 V which isn’t the way it’s supposed to work.
