Hey guys was wondering how much hp and torque I could gain going from stock ported magnum heads with upgraded springs to edelbrock heads!

The camshaft is mild 220@50 .479 lift

If I would do this I would probably use a 236@50 duration with .550 lift camshaft grind or something along those lines.

This is just a guesstimate throwing a idea out there!

Here’s PIE’s flow numbers for all their heads!

First picture is their CNC ported Iron Level 2 heads followed by their 2 levels of Edelbrock. Their level 2 Eddy’s have 2.08 valves… the others have 2.02.

They’re not cheap… but with a magnum we’re limited to what is out there!

Depends on how well you ported the Stock Magnum heads, they could be flowing similar, so no real gain is possible. If half way in between with mild cam may not do all that much especially for the $$$$$.

How much gain would you need to feel worth it?

It sounds like you’re trying to stay in a budget…if so…Then I would grab a set of the bare Jegs, Summit or Speedmaster iron heads and then have Magnesium Valve guides installed… get ahold of @PROSTOCKTOM for a set of SI factory size valves… a set of PAC 1286-16 springs along with the recommended retainers, do a pocket port and flash clean up… and you can still use the factory rockers and pushrods … then call Ken at Oregon Cams and tell him your plans… get your cam and put it together and go have fun.

As I said in the beginning…we’re limited on Magnum heads and unless you just want to spend the dough on Edelbrocks and budget is not an issue… then go that route as you can always use them on a bigger motor in case plans change later down the road… but you will still need to have the Eddys checked out for tolerances and any casting debris.

Hope this helps!!!

I’m sure they’re others that will chime in hopefully!!!
