Stop in for a cup of coffee

I always wondered about the tone arm/ cartridge angle. Somewhere in the sweep, it is a perfect 90°. But, are the grooves cut in the master at a perfect 90°?
Ask Jim cause heck if I know lol! Think there's an inner and outer null point, don't know if it's ever perfect maybe just a balance. I do know I've heard "inner groove distortion" when it's not close!

I should dig mine out sometime. It has been decades since I lit it up.

Nice! Let's give 'em even more of a challenge: Baerwald, or Lofgren?

And I like the scale. Only hard part now is to get the scale at the same level as the surface of a record, otherwise your VTF will be off slightly. On both my Scoutmaster and my SL-1200 I had carefully sized blocks of wood I placed up against the side of the platter specifically for that purpose.
SL-1200 is the one I posted a link to above.

Oh mine's prolly off and there's nothing to verify the anti-skate. I did see a device on the Wally Tractor video but don't think I'm diving that deep, at least not yet lol!

Correct. The cutting lathe is always 90 degrees to the center of the disc, and the only way to duplicate that is by using a linear tracking arm. Cheap ones suck, and expensive ones are finicky (I've messed around with air-bearing arms), and since every static-mounted tonearm is a compromise, different alignment strategies have been developed over the years, each with it's own features and shortcomings/faults.

If you ever plan on driving into the Chicago (Barrington) area, shoot me a PM before you leave. I have a good friend there who is an audio dealer, and he usually has multiple $10k+ turntables set-up.

I saw this when picking up my old tubes last Saturday, was a little "sticker shocked".

Shee-it! I still have two SL-1200's, don't remember the version (the last letter), but I'll take them to my grave probably, as both were used as test mules for Jim Howard's (RIP) bearing upgrades.

My reply will be interesting.

What the heck, if it works!

Time to get, have to go to Redmond to pick up network equipment, the fun time will be return trip where I drop off cam, pistons, etc. to builder. Have a Great Day All!

Was downstairs snoozing in front of the gas fireplace, got a hundred dollar bill from Gas Co., think we've been doing that a lot but haven't turned on the heat, also gas lol!
Does the gas fireplace stink up the upstairs? Mine is not vented and it smells like I'm idling an M35A2 upstairs

Not good at all, anyone sleeping up there could get sick or die in there sleep from carbon monoxide poisoning, seems to me your heat supply down stairs should be vented

A few months before I got married I bought my Meranze system, but opted for a better direct drive Gerard turn table, word to the young, buy that stereo system before you get married.

Yeah... I don't use it because of that. It's just in a weird spot with the split level house and partial basement

Wonder if it needs to be cleaned somehow
