Well, the condenser coil is cracked in 3 places and to add to the joy, the heat exchanger for the furnace is cracked in 5 places...ugh! :BangHead:

Did you get a home warranty when you bought it???

At least you get your money's worth... 3 cracks in one and 5 in the other... (I can't believe I just typed thatlll)

It's better than one crack....

I do have to say I like the GTX they got in the movie

Agree. How about the sellers discloser. I thing that's two years in Pa. If you can show it was a preexisting problem they covered over.

Can't go back to the seller, system was inspected when I bought the house and documented that it was working properly and no cracks in heat exchanger then. It seems that on these Trane systems there has been a massive number of them suddenly developing cracks in the heat exchanger and condenser coils.

The home warranty will only cover part of the repairs and the Trane replacement parts have been failing all over the place too. I can get it repaired but it will likely happen again in 18-24 months.

Oh, now you're going to get me to go see it just for the GTX.....

Have you noticed that they usually have at least one good mopar in each sequel....
Yeah this one is pretty slick. Look at George H's avatar, kind of looks like that on a 71GTX

Thats highly unusual for Tranes. They must have screwed something up majorly

Wow.with all those issues is it subject to coverage under any recall?

I used to be scared of pretty girls until one confessed, they're just as scared of me.....

Oooohhh, 71....

My mom had a 71 Satellite when we were kids, so I have a soft spot for those....

I think carrier or bryant have lifetime heat exchanger warranties...

Nope. Trane is still in CYA mode and is quietly redesigning the parts for the new systems. They are shunting all of the old stock of the failing parts to the replacement service sector until the inventory is gone.

Did you read the part about verifying the unit is cracked. Not saying your guy is less then honest, but may be worth another opinion.

Read down trane has a 99 year warranty if I read it correctly. Now the next question is if so is it transferrable.

Cracked heat exchanger? Now What? Read For Tips!
That warranty isn't on these systems and don't apply to builder grade installation anyway. I've done a bunch of homework on this and so far I have 3 different pros going on it now giving competing bids for either repair or replacement. Just gotta figure out which way I want to go...

I hear you, I don't fully trust anyone doing service. We used a fiber optic camera to inspect and I could see the cracks for myself. :(

I know your smart enough not to be easily fooled. Just figure the more info the better. Did you get the car a/c figured out.
