.223/5.56.what caliber are you looking at building
I just cant justify any other caliber right now. I like the idea of a .308 but I have no reason for it and not to mention costs more to shoot.

let me talk to you about 6.5 grendel. I built one and absolutely love it, it outperforms the 308 in almost every ballistic category but uses 95% the same parts as the 5.56 but with a range out to 1200 yards if needed. There's only 2 parts that are different than the 5.56, the bolt and the barrel, everything else is the same. It is a tad more expensive to shoot, but less than that of 308 and it has less recoil than a 308. If you already have a 5.56, I'd highly recommend it. and its one of the calibers the military is considering in its new battle rifle, which if its accepted will drop the prices drastically on ammo..223/5.56.

Not a big fan (or hater), but that looks really cool..I'm not a tattooView attachment 1715009621 fan but this gal got this one after her breast cancer surgery.

Same lower as the 5.56. 6.5 grendel even uses the same mags as the 5.56, only thing you gotta do to the mags is change the plastic followers out, which are like 3 bucks.I've looked into that caliber as well. We actually have 2, 5.56 rifles. The one I just put together I bought a 5.56 bolt so I already have it, but I could change it. Is the lower the same as a 5.56? Or do you need the .308 lower?

Dam, hope it's okOh hey, you guys know what sucks???
So yesterday I had my yearly eye apt. Found out I have a slight astigmatism and should have glasses to clear up my vision. (thats not the sucky part). Well they dilated my eyes of course, I didnt think it would mess with me to much but everything I looked at was somewhat doubled up. Well we get home and we have 4 steps in the garage to get into the house. I misjudged the steps and I fell, of course right onto my foot thats in a cast. Im not supposed to put any weight on it. Yep I stepped right on it and fell into the door. Man that frickin hurt. I had to lay there just to make sure nothing snapped.
Fast forward to bed time, I was crutching down the hall with the lights off to head to bed. My wife left her work computer bag in the hall fully open. My crutch caught the bag and slipped out. Sure **** I did the exact same thing as earlier... My foot is sore today and I really hope I didnt damage anything! Yep that sucks I tell ya!
OUCH! hope all is okOh hey, you guys know what sucks???

I agree!! I tried way back to make a case for the old ones coming back - - his reply was something to the effect of "not a priority" ...Good morning, coffee's down, one more day off still, thunderstorms roll in tomorrow morning for the weekend but today's beautiful. I see Mitch is having good scenery
On a side note, I wonder if Joey is up to adding some more smiley's, the selection we have is pretty limited.

6.5 uses all the following 5.56 stuff
Lower
Upper(not counting the barrel)
Bolt Carrier(not including the bolt)
Firing pin
Recoil buffer and spring,
stock
pistol grip
trigger
gas tube
gas block(depending on barrel size of course(pencil, bull, heavy etc)
handguards/rails
Mags(with follower swap)
There's literally only 2 parts different.
the Bolt
the barrel
you can usually find a barrel/bolt combo on midway for just a few dollars more than a 5.56 barrel, depending on size of course. they make the 6.5 as short as 7 inches and as long as 36 inches. I went with a 24 inch 1:8 twist from Broughton and had it custom machine finished so it was way more, but a standard barrel with bolts runs around 2-300.
shoulda stayed on the couch!!!!Oh hey, you guys know what sucks???

LOL! I have pain killers, can I substitute?for today Ramie - I prescribe copious amounts of alcohol...
Who?It is still moaning!!
mix-n-match.... wooohooo... LOLLOL! I have pain killers, can I substitute?
heavy but i was looking to get into long range shooting. an 18/20 in with a 1:18 twist is still gonna be a tack driver. the round is just that good. That really is not that bad of a price for a bolt and barrel. How heavy is that 24" rifle? I like the looks for a 20" barrel, but I dont know if I need anything that long. Not to mention the price seems to go up with the length. You have me thinking now!
