Stop in for a cup of coffee

If it is a Magnum engine, it is different than the LA engines and requires a different converter balance.

well .....I have found that an 8.8 out of a ferd ranger is actually eerily close to an A-body rear width .....with gear selection and posi unit availability excellent.

if a Dakota is comparable ...within an inch or so ...then the 8 1/4 would prolly be the way to go ....but I don't have a Dakota handy to measure.

if a Dakota measures right ...the 9 1/4 is also there but I don't know anything about that dude

What year Dakota are you talkin about???

Mike, your flex plate is an external balance type. Look at the converter and see if there are any counter weights welded to it. If not, it is a neutral balance converter and not correct for the engine.

in this thread ...someone also discovered that a ranger is an almost exact fit ...but I have a hard time believing that a Dakota is going to be that much wider than a ranger

Dodge Dakota rear ends....

The first gen Dakota was actually originally designed by ford to be a Ranger, but they decided to go another direction...

They then sold the design to Chrysler who finished it and adapted it to their parts.... They had torsion bar suspension in front...

So the first gen Dakotas were relatives of the Ranger....

I will check it again tomorrow - but I am feeling like you've got it - and considering all the homework I did to make sure I ordered the right part - Jegs ain't gonna like me much on Monday

Curious to see how they handle this one. Being it's been filled with oil and mounted....
