Same as this Tarm 504

If we had a door to the basement inside I would prob use it with wood or coal, just a pia to go outside then in the basement to stoke it or fill it every few hours (go have fun with that one )

Really? No way to bsmt from inside? Ive seen a few with opposite problem. Have inside stairway, but no good way to get coal or wood in. Farmhouse where wife grew up, they had a coal room. Removed a little window/grate and truck just ran a chute in. From there it was auger drive into the stove. I never saw it work. Was converted to oil many years ago.

When I moved in it had a old coal boiler that was covered in asbestos, no oil at all, that thing weighed a ton and a half. Hoisted it out and dropped the Tarm in. That was not fun!

Just thinking about it... They actually did not have inside steps originally. He added a room over what was an outside stairway. House was likely about same age as yours.

Here's my house and our boiler. The boiler is about 4' tall and a bit bigger than a large suitcase. Hard to believe how well it works for how small it is. It heats only a gallon and a half at a time.

I just love seeing your house, Mike. Growing up in Florida in the '60's and '70's was great, but I wish I'd had a chance to live in the Midwest for a couple years growing up to experience that way of life.

It feels pretty cold here too, temps will be in the 30's and 40's through next week, with a hint of snow in the forecast. We will be very slow at work all January...I bought a discount pass good for the whole month for admission into most of the museums, home tours and historical sites downtown, my young lady friend will join me, she is getting married in March.

Last night I had the nicest Yankees! A family of 11, friendly and considerate, they toasted me for the good service, even, and gave us an extra $100!

It needs painted but here's our old coal chute door. Ours was a coal fired boiler (hot water not steam) and later converted probably to fuel oil then natural gas. Our old boiler was as big as our kitchen table and they took it apart in sections to carry it out. Heavy old cast iron. It heated the basement though just because of the thermal mass.
