Stop in for a cup of coffee

Hey hey ..... I didn't reply earlier because I actually got some shop time today. Got a comp day from work because I have too many overtime hours, so I came home and got started in the garage and let time just go.

Spent more time cleaning and picking up than actually working on cool car stuff but it all has to get done.

Fixed a couple flat tires, I had to wrestle one to get the plug to go in. I sat on it and with all my might, stabbed the plug in. Then I lost my balance and fell over with the tire. A little battle scratch but got R did.

Then I started getting a slant six ready for removal from a parts car that is getting scrapped real soon.

When I did tire repairs, I liked patches over plugs... I saw a few leaky tires come in where the plug leaked...

Never had a patch come back leaking...

well it looks like I am not the only cook around here, thank for backing me up ! When it comes to a boil, stir for 5 minutes.....5 minutes is a long time

I did mine in the crock pot on low for 1 1/2 hours. Stir and drop on wax paper.

I know my way around the stove also... Mom let me start cooking when I was 4 years old...

Imagine all the good food that we could make if/when we could all meet up at a meet or something...

Good morning Karl, is this Friday

Yes it is... I just finished work for Thrursday and have to go in today also... Part of the support for the new team that has to cover us now that we are on four 10 hour shifts per week...

I should be at 50 hours for the week when I clock out tomorrow after working 8 hours...

I was making gravy by myself by 8 years old, my grandmother and I was a team back in the day I remember my uncles bragging on my fried chicken , miss those great folks and times

This one was great fun and wonderfully distracting to do!

Whoa .. Dude .. The colors :D

This song kept running through my head as I did that image...

“Picture yourself in a boat on a river
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies

Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green
Towering over your head

You look for the girl with the sun in her eyes
But she's gone

You follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies

Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers
That grow so incredibly high”

That reminded me of the Yellow Submarine video also...

My dad once mentioned that he regretted that his mom didn't teach him how to make her home made gravy from scratch... She was great at it...

After I moved back here, I used to go to mom's house and help her cook family meals at holidays... We would cook for me, my brother, our kids, grandma and her... I miss that now that she's gone...

The rule when I was young was that I was not to use the stove unless she was there keeping an eye on me in case something happened...

However, I was allowed to use the toaster oven without supervision...

I don't like it that much, but it's paying the bills... They are trying to cut out overtime with the 10 hour shifts, we'll see how that goes...

It would be better if my department lead wasn't such an @sshole... I have to set him straight sometimes, but usually just go away disgusted after some of our conversations because it's not worth arguing with him all the time... He likes to yell and is on a power trip...

The old department lead was much better...

I would like to get back in my career, but with the time off I had while taking care of mom at the end is preventing me from getting back in... They preach "put family before work", but now that I did, they seem to hold it against me...

I would walk in from the field and start the potatoes for frying and put two pots of coffee one (perked coffee) , Wow I forgot all about those times in the apple harvest up in Mich, ok I need to take that off my mind, my mom and Grandma would brag on me all the time, made me a miss fit by the time I was 15, all grown up

We used to stop for apples in Michigan on our way back to Chicago in October when they were fresh picked and sold at a farm stand off the highway around exit 41 in I-94... I don't think that they have the farm stand there anymore, it's been years since I have bought them there...

I would buy a bushel basket each full of 3 different kinds and split them up with everyone here in Chicago...

Not any memories of grandparents.
Grandmother was the only one.
She was a miserable old woman. Children should be seen and not heard, yada, yada.

Well I was blessed with a fun hard working sweet lady for a grandmother, my mom and grandma raised me, never met a grandfather ...

My youngest son is getting good at making apple sauce fresh from apples... He looked up a recipe on the internet and has been making it for about a year now... I stock up on apples when they are in season for him... He likes cooking also...

I taught my kids how to cook basic dishes so they can feed themselves when they need... That way they can take care of themselves and do not have to feel like they need a gf or wife to take care of them... They need to be independent and not rely on others to take care of themselves... I don't want them to stay in a bad relationship just because they feel that they can't take care of themselves...

It came in handy when my parents divorced when we were in jr high school and my brother and I were home alone most of the time while dad was running his video store...

My ex tried to tell me that I needed her to take care of me while we were going through our divorce... I pointed out to her, that I have been taking care of myself since I was 12 years old and don't need her to survive... Yeah, she did the laundry when we were married, but I did my own as a kid and now also...

She was a good house keeper and kept the house clean and did the laundry... We would cook, but I was a better cook than her and did my share of it... It wasn't until she refused not to clean the dishes up after I cooked steaks one night after working all day, that I stopped cooking steaks... She stayed home all day, I was working all day and would help her out by cooking half the time, but after she refused to clean the broiler, I stopped cooking steaks... I would still cook other things, but not steaks... If she can't pitch in and help clean after I worked all day and cooked, f*ck her... :icon_fU:

My oldest son still remembers that...

Thats why i live here, summer is awesome. I will put up with winter to have a repeat of last summer. It was nice, hot and dry.
A rare thing.im in cottage country and wouldnt give it up for the world. I do look forward to winter vacations,be it a cruise or a holiday in vegas. Not this winter though. Guess i will just turn the heat up in the shop.

You saved your boys from a screwed up world, I see so many kids at the age of 20 and 30 never learn to cook, and yep ! she would have been out, good move brother

I knew all of my grandparents on both sides of the family, but never knew my great grandparents on my dad's side... They all died before I was born...

However, I knew all four of my great grandparents on my mom's side.. But they all died off by the time I was in high school... My great grandma had her first heart attack in 1970 and the doctors gave her 6 months to live... She ended up to be the last one of my great grandparents to die... She survived two heart attacks, but it was the stroke that finally did her in... Proved the doctors wrong when she lived another 11 years after their prognosis...

Same here... Today was the last day in the 40's here, it was 48° when I went into work this afternoon, but rain has come in and the temperature has dropped and they predict it will turn to snow by morning, but it will be a high of 36°, so it should melt by tomorrow...

Both my kids had to cook if they wanted to eat. I tried to have them do their own laundry, but the wife insisted she do it.
My son bought a house and moved out in july, and is now gettin a taste of reality. Seems to be taking good care of himself. Well, the house is clean.
He works away,3 weeks out and one week home. Week at home is party time, all his buddies gather and cut loose.
