Did I mention the FLASH FLOOD WARNING that screeched at us on the TV yesterday afternoon? It was aimed at parts of 3 counties, ours and the neighbors. I looked at the NWS radar and parts of the wilderness to the east of us looked threatened 
. I used the NWS forecast thingie and found a rain gauge out there that collected 2 1/4" in 2 hours. 
I bet that got some of those sand washes to floodin' . Nobody lives out there, I think it's called a National Wilderness.
